Colorado says yes...

DENVER (AP) - Senate Democrats approved legislation that would allow illegal immigrants in Colorado attend college at a discounted tuition rate.

The bill passed on a party-line vote Monday with Republican opposition. The bill heads to the Republican-controlled House.

The proposal would let illegal immigrants who graduate from Colorado high schools attend college at a rate lower than the out-of-state price, but slightly higher than the in-state rate.

The students must sign an affidavit saying they are seeking legal status.

It would be up to colleges whether to participate in the tuition program.

Supporters say illegal immigrants who grew up attending state schools deserve a chance to attend college at an affordable rate. But opponents say the bill rewards illegal behavior.

Since the Supreme Court has already ruled on that, your second option is the one we should be using.

It is the lax prior system that allowed this to proceed.

NO. They should not get special priveleges. That is just wrong.

What special privileges are you talking about? If they are a resident of a state, they qualify for in-state tuition.

If you read the article, legal residents receive the discounted in-state tuition rate. Out of state residents receive the higher out of state tuition rate. Illegal immigrant students who have resided in Colorado and attended Colorado schools get a rate that is in between those two.

What was that again about "reverse prejudice"? Hmmm?

Absolutely let's encourage first gens to go to college and move on as skilled workers into the economy. Big picture shows up that we need more skilled labor, the Baby Boomers are tipping the scales with thier huge numbers and we need more young people to balance the costs. First generation immigrants who are motivated (often more motivated than others) to succeed are just the sort we need to help solve problems that are just now starting to show up with the disproportiate number of Boomers.

If anything they should get the out of country rate and be made to have a valid visa, like all other students attending that do not LEGALLY RESIDE in the US.

True and I totally agree. Why is it illegal immigrants are allowed to float by in US schools anyway.. Why are they graduating without official residency? There should be a deadline or schedules in place and I find this pass for illegal immigrants ridiculous.
