Colorado says yes...

DENVER (AP) - Senate Democrats approved legislation that would allow illegal immigrants in Colorado attend college at a discounted tuition rate.

The bill passed on a party-line vote Monday with Republican opposition. The bill heads to the Republican-controlled House.

The proposal would let illegal immigrants who graduate from Colorado high schools attend college at a rate lower than the out-of-state price, but slightly higher than the in-state rate.

The students must sign an affidavit saying they are seeking legal status.

It would be up to colleges whether to participate in the tuition program.

Supporters say illegal immigrants who grew up attending state schools deserve a chance to attend college at an affordable rate. But opponents say the bill rewards illegal behavior.

State residency laws assume the person is in the US legally.

But they do have "official" residency in the country where they are citizens!

Limbo? Or they learn to play the system (like mom and dad have)... Of course children deserve an education, they deserve food and shelter too. And when parents are negligent social services step in.. Is that all you think this is here?

Not when it comes to school. All children are required by law to go to school or be home schooled, regardless of immigration status.

If someone has grown up here, they don't know their country of birth. These children have done absolutely nothing wrong and have broken no laws.

If they are born in the US then they are citizens by birth.

The children have not broken any laws. Their parents did. Since when does the U.S. penalize children for crimes committed by their parents?

first if we are talking college then they would be old enough (mostly) to be on their own and make decisions to their welfare.
