Well...this is actually a discussion...and I do have a hunch.

I have a hunch that many COULD afford healthcare, but CHOOSE to spend their money in other ways.

I saw the perfect example a few weeks ago. A man holding a sign asking for money...he could not find work.

He was talking on a cell phone while holding the sign.

'nuff said.

I don't recall anyone saying someone should get everything for free. I do believe that they should have to pay a percentage of their income (most insurances are not affordable) to contribute to the"system".

Maybe he was talking to a potential employer? You really don't know for sure. You are making assumptions without facts.

Yup. Not only does he go on deployments, but we pay taxes that fund Tricare. I'd say we pay way plenty for our healthcare, as I'm sure you'd agree! But we also have a sneak peek into what Universal Healthcare would be like by visiting our local MTF. It's adequate care (which I will freely admit is more than some get) but with long waits, tons of bureaucracy, lack of significant choice, and extreme (!) waste. I believe even you have mentioned having supplemental insurance? You wouldn't be the first military family I know to do that because of how lacking TriCare benefits can be.
