Maybe I was indulging in some hyperbole of my own, lol!
Seriously, I know several people (not me) who said stuff like, "I usually vote Democrat, but if McCain wins the Republican nomination, I'd consider voting for him", or "If McCain wins the nomination, then I'd be happy regardless of which party wins the presidency." That kind of talk stopped after pretty quickly as it became clear that the Republican Party was running a slime and smear campaign, short on issues and long on insults, and as the McCain mythology unravelled to disclose a person who really wasn't fit for that office.

wanna step outside and say that? :)
I'm not sure they're mutually exclusive.
Initially the race was McCain's to lose: he was a "war hero", was allied with the party in power, had a long and distinguished senate record, etc. Each major party has carved out almost exactly the same sized slice of the electorate, which means that in order for Mr Obama to have had such a landslide victory, many Republicans either "jumped ship" and voted for Mr. Obama, or didn't vote.
Mr. Obama ran a tight, disciplined campaign, focused on issues, and refused to participate in the GOP's hysteria and baiting. If Mr. McCain had done the same, the race would have been closer. Mr. McCain's post convention "bounce" did put him ahead in the polls for a few days. And it worked to Mr. Obama's advantage that the toxic economic fruit grown from eight years of "conservative" control of the presidency ripened in the last few weeks before the election.
"Stop spreading the notion that liberals/democrats are the ones that care about people and republicans are the ones that only care about themselves. It simply isnt true."

How long? I don't think those have been the players for quite that long. I hate that the Dem. congress is catching so much crap for the economy right now.
Nancy P since 1987
Barney F since 1980
Harry Reid since 1986
....you call them new players????
I am sure that you do hate that the Demo congress is catching crap, since you are a democrat and the truth hurts. You can CLEARLY thank Barney Frank for the Fannie Mae Freddie Mac debacle and resulting bailout.
I wonder what black journalist Bill Maxwell meant in this article he wrote a few years back about his Fraternal and Maternal Grandmothers talking about the days "before welfare". Or rather I wonder what his grandmothers meant?

I am really tired of hearing about how BAD McCain's campaign was, but I have learned that trying to get the point across that OUR views are that Obama's campaign wasn't squeeky either just isn't going to seem to get across.
It's not meant to be personal to McCain supporters when most of us say that McCain ran a bad campaign.
I don't call them new players nessesarily, but they have not been in control for all that time, now have they?
Both sides went for the bailout, lets be serious.
No problem,
There in lies the point,
