Out of curiosity, which county? I grew up in Lee County and now live near Richmond. And yes, Lee County is about as rural as you can get!! And everyone there seems to be a conservative Republican, including my entire family, so I avoid political discussion as soon as I enter my hometown...it's easier that way!

Sorry to go off topic...

Floyd County, about 50 miles south of Roanoke.

“If, by a ‘liberal,’ they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people – their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties – someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a ‘liberal,’ then I’m proud to say I’m a ‘liberal.’”

I've been around for way longer than that, and I respectfully disagree. In fact, I've never seen ordinary people more insecure and fearful of what the future holds than right now.

Meanwhile, our tax money is going to fund bailouts of corporations so that their executives can go on partridge hunts in England: they are the real "entitled" class.

am a very good, caring person, but I do believe in working for what you get. >>

And so do the people that you are making generalizations about.

I agree..."spread the wealth" applies to a progressive tax system...

BUT...i think BO took it a step farther by (planning to) increasing taxes to one group, while reducing taxes to the rest...to further "spread it around"...

so while i agree with a progressive tax system, i don't agree with selectively reducing taxes at a time like this.

I work with college kids on a daily basis and I definitely see some "entitlement".

I think the true "debate" threads have had parties from both sides involved. This is not really a debate thread. It's not like there are several conservatives posting to this thread and they are being run off by liberals. It's those people who share Karen's POV that seem to be choosing to not participate. And by education level you mean more educated - correct? Not that I think less of people who take that particular path in life, because I don't, but I think overall people with advanced degrees MAY be more apt to look critically at a candidate rather than listen to and form opinions based on commercials. Which also explains why the whole 'Ayers/terrorist' thing never seemed to sway his supporters.
