my problem with that is that i don't believe that the gap was created by taxation, and i don't think it should be fixed by taxation.

Good point.
Its a great example. We stopped asking my parents for appliances for gifts (or even mentioning we wanted something) because my parents kept giving us $5-10 appliances that wouldn't last a year. We just buy each other the nice stuff.
One exception is our Kitchenaide toaster, which has only lasted 5 years. The knob broke, and we have to keep turning the dial up and up to make toast. It was a good toaster that should have lasted longer.
We were talking about this at my work, how our parents have stuff that they bought 30 years ago and they still use. It wasn't the top of the line, but it was well made.
My dollars feel like they go much further when I don't have to keep buying the same thing over and over again.

yes, that was me. and i was offened because my intelligence was insulted. but i have been pretty darn respectful to karen ever since.
and as for number 3...well sorry, but if someone is going to make claims that liberals are hateful, certain posters are denigrating others then the 'attack' mode has already been turned on, so you darn well better be able to back up those claims with some sort of fact.

bear in mind that some people do change thier minds based on some of the inteligent discussions here.
I was fairly undecided on who i would vote for, and these discussions influenced me....in the end i went with my original choice, but mainly because my vote didn't matter enough to spend any more energy on it....my state was not even questionable who would win.
