The woman you are referring to wrote some very disparaging and hateful posts, quite similar to Karen's, which is why others may have believed they were both the same person. I'm sorry if you felt that she was "picked on" but she certainly had no problem dishing out negativity and false information which is why she was called out on it.

As far as delphine is concerned, I don't know the situation regarding that poster so I cannot comment on that. If you care to provide the posts that led up to delphine being "chased away" then I'll be happy to read them and respond from there.

How does anyone "run off" those that they don't agree with? If posting to someone and choosing to debate with them is considered "chasing them away" then they really shouldn't be on a debate board to begin with. It's my opinion that many of the people who have left or have become lurkers are those that either were asked repeatedly to provide credible, unbiased sources and were unable or unwilling to do so or else they chose to leave/lurk due to the increased negativity leading up to the election. If you go back and read the posts from posters who were considering leaving or lurking b/c of the negativity you would see that a majority of them were Obama supporters (here's a link to a thread that backs up that claim - http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-psmomspol&msg=4604.1&ctx=512

It certainly seems that the economy suffers more if a relatively small number brokers, bankers, and execs risk losing their bonuses than a comparatively larger number of people stop discretionary spending altogether.

I know that there are problems with the economy, but the market seems absolutely spooked. It can't just be concern over a new administration. I don't know that the markets would have faired much better with McCain on recent economic news. Maybe its the media - all this doom and gloom in the news is creating more of doom and gloom.

I disagree with your premise that Obama was voted in because in your opinion liberals want free money. The College educated voters who overwhelmingly voted for Obama are not looking for hand-outs but looking for a change in policies that are drowning our country in debt. Do you have any idea what our nation spends on rebuilding Iraq and maintaining forces in that country. The following is a breakdown from about.com "U.S. Monthly Spending in Iraq - $12 billion in 2008" - that's per month. your welfare argument pales compared to that. Below was taken from About.com

Cost of deploying one U.S. soldier for one year in Iraq - $390,000 (Congressional Research Service)

Missing - $1 billion in tractor trailers, tank recovery vehicles, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and other equipment and services provided to the Iraqi security forces. (Per CBS News on Dec 6, 2007.)
ismanaged & Wasted in Iraq - $10 billion, per Feb 2007 Congressional hearings

Halliburton Overcharges Classified by the Pentagon as Unreasonable and Unsupported - $1.4 billion

Amount paid to KBR, a former Halliburton division, to supply U.S. military in Iraq with food, fuel, housing and other items - $20 billion

Portion of the $20 billion paid to KBR that Pentagon auditors deem "questionable or supportable" - $3.2 billion

Number of major U.S. bases in Iraq - 75 (The Nation/New York Times)
