<<(it was at a time when cell phones were relatively new, not the primary phone) she didn't need it..>>

I'm not sure of the dates, but Welfare reform under the Clinton administration did at least attempt to cut some of the fraud and waste.

It was the feeling i got from the last part of your post...if it wasn't your notion, i appologize....it was just how i read it...

sure, i can be angry at all waste.....when it affects the taxpayer...

if the CEO of my company buys a company jet, with a golden toilet....and i think it is wastefull, i don't get as mad, because it didn't hurt the taxpayers....he wasted his own money, or maybe my company's money (which might make me mad, but shouldn't make you mad)

But what about the companies the gov is now bailing out due to the CEO's with their big paychecks, stock options and bonuses that put the company in ruins?

yeah, that is rediculous that those CEOs blew money they didn't have, and taxpayers are picking up the tab! i AM pissed about that...

but then...take that dollar amount...and take the dollar amount of every welfare recipient who wastes money on luxuries, and i am SURE that the welfare waste is way more than that excursion....

add a few more hurdles...requirements such as financial counceling, financial classes, education...

that way the people who really need it, will go through the extra effort to get it, and the people who don't really need it will make other choices, and survive without it.>>

i dont know if i would make it harder to get. in my experience it took about 6 weeks to get food stamps from the day that i applied. thats kind of a long time if your really in need. but once you are on it then you can be required to do things lile get financial classes, etc... but how would that work, especially if the idea is to shrink govt? then there are also the people who may not need classes our counseling, they may have just temporarily fallen on hard times...
