Depends on the plan that the owner has.......a basic landline without any extras would probably be cheaper each month.

I would like to see money management classes and credit counseling as a requirement for getting assistance.

In my opinion this would probably be a more fair comparison:

The number of adults (who would more likely be the ones "wasting" the welfare benefits on "luxuries") as of June 2008 was 863,764.

Perhaps she is or has been a victim of spousal abuse and the phone was provided by a shelter so that she can call the police if her life is further threatened. Would anyone resent her having that slim protection?

As hard as it is to believe, it seems the answer is, "yes, there are some that do resent her having that cell phone."

what i mean about one person on welfare being able to make choices that make a difference is....

if that person saves money rather than spending it on luxuries, they may be able to come off aid sooner, and support themselves sooner...

for example...if someone only needs food help for about $300/month....and they cancel thier netflicks or reduce thier cable bill, or cell phone, or cut back on beauty treatments, they can easily bank $300/year....cutting out one full month of aid....add that up, and they will be self sufficient sooner if they want to.

that is what i mean about one person making a difference in thier life.

and i do get that certain people make a difference within a company, but not every single person that makes up that company can make a difference.
