I went because my ex was taking my kids to a Christian church and I wanted them to have a different perspective, plus they were being harassed for not being Christian by their Sunday School teacher and I wanted them to be in a place where more than one belief was welcome.....as an athiest I did not want to go to church and couldn't image what I'd find there.

Thank you for posting this information. I'm going to do more research on a UU church in my area. I've been thinking a lot about how to raise my son in re: to religion. My SO was raised in an Evangelical Baptist church and while he has denounced the extreme conservativeness taught to him, he still believes in Jesus and wants to teach our son the Christian faith. I was raised Catholic but have never had a strong pull towards any one religion or religious faith. I think there is good in all of them and I have been very skeptical of teaching my son any one "truth." I love the sound of this church and I think it would be a great way to teach our son about every religion, while still satisfying my SO's desire for him to know about Christianity.

Do your children enjoy it, too?

Nothing much will happen until the Jan 29th when the winner takes over.

If the Democrats win, I think there is some hope that we will be able to overcome the economic mess that we are facing. I believe that they will try to re-regulate some of the systems that have unraveled due to "anything goes" economic mess created by the Republicans. I also believe that they will bring an end to the economic drain known as Iraq. If Obama is elected, I wonder if he will pardon Bush? (I don't think Bush will be able to ever leave the US again, he may be arrested for his war crimes)

If the Republican win, we will be in for a long and painful depression. I'm not sure if we will emerge from this one. I believe that the 1st amendment will be trashed, you will see the end media such as this board. They will begin to regulate the Internet. There will only be Fox News and authoritarian propagandist like Hannity and Limbaugh. The economy will decline. McCain's formula for the economy is to shut down non essential government. This will throw more people out of work and accelerate our economic decline. We will continue to sell our assets to other countries.

Here are some pictures from the last depression

This one will be worse if McCain wins.

As for free speech, I don't know if one party will curtail our rights more than the other.

Not only are they (Canada) far less welcoming than we are with regards to immigrants.

Canadians are very welcoming of immigrants.

You consider yourself a conservative correct? Are you a classical conservative in the states rights, small government sense or in the culture wars sense or both?

If you are at least partially a classical conservative, why is it that abortion rights should be decided by the states but the gay marriage issue should be a federal prohibition?

I also truly do not understand why there cannot be a division between the legal definition of marriage and the religious definition? Why can't we accord homosexual couples the same legal rights that other couples/families receive and let each church decide whether or not homosexuals may marry spiritually in the eyes of their God?

In case my tone is not clear - I am not intending to be snarky - these are genuine questions I have.

"I can imagine few things more abhorrant than the ability to vote to REMOVE existing legal rights for one minority group on, and few things that are less 'American'."

Totally agree

I totally agree with what you have stated.

"So how will the result be handled by you (as in you in general)? What are your thoughts if your team dosen't win?"

If something truly horrible were to come out about Obama, I could see a rightful electoral shift. Barring that...
I am trying to prepare myself for the unexpected but if Obama loses after months of leading in every single national poll taken (individual polls are certainly not precise but taking repeated samples should give you a better and better sense of what is happening), I will admittedly be completely demoralized and lose a great deal of faith in our election system.

If Obama loses, I will worry about how the rest of the world will also see our system and our people. I think it would further set back our international reputation and the good will our allies are willing to offer.

Like many others, I will hope that President McCain is the appealingly moderate McCain of 2000, that he remains healthy, that he is not rash in his decision making as he has been in his campaign, that he is able to overcome the dirtiness of his campaign and again "reach against party lines," that he does some hefty international outreach, and that he surrounds himself by better policy advisers (as opposed to image advisers). I hope Palin brings attention to the issue surrounding special needs children and stays away from international and other domestic affairs until she has learned A LOT more and is able to articulate her views in an informed and nuanced way.
