I guess my husband and I are seriously going against "traditional" marriage. Not only is ours an interracial marriage, but we also had no children until our boy was born three months ago -- 15 years into the marriage! Was our marriage invalid until we produced a child? Ridiculous. If you honestly believe the definition of marriage hasn't changed, you're frighteningly deluded. Of course you will answer by saying it was always a man and a woman, but why pick that one part of the definition? Just as you do with the Bible, you simply pick what fits your limited view and your inflated sense of moral superiority. Basing laws on one group's ideas of morality is absurd. I'm a Christian myself and I can see that that makes no sense (just as our Founding Fathers could see it too...)

As an aside, the word "marriage" is from the Latin "maritare", to marry, which was from the Latin word for husband, "maritus", so to be married meant to take a husband.

It's 2008, and families are formed in a variety of ways including adoption and sperm donation and stepparenting (all of which are predominantly - but not solely - engaged in by heterosexual couples).

Some would argue that being a pedophile or a serial killer isn't a choice either. That still doesn't excuse the behavior. An no, I have nothing against gays so don't even go there.

Merely pointing out that just because something isn't a choice doesn't therefore make the behavior justifiable as a public and societal norm.
