At least Obama is telling us exactly what his philosophy of government actually.

"Why doesn't it make sense to say: you have a right to your property, but once you've accumulated so much property that accumulating more isn't really making your life any better, then we will take some of it and use it toward the public good."

Oh I can believe it. It's been said many times before on this board. After all, everybody knows that the "wealthy" don't do anything worthwhile with their money and don't deserve to spend it how they choose. Can you imagine if I tried to tell one of the people who has their hand in my Nine West purse how to spend their money (or mine if Obama happens to win)?

Some people on this board seem to forget that Obama also plans to increase Social Security tax, not just the federal income tax.

I know some people are going to respond to you and say that they have jobs and they work hard and that it's not fair that some people make more money than them so they deserve to get some of that money. IMO we're not selfish we're just self-sufficient and always have been.

Right. When our budget is out of whack we don't go out and rob a bank, we cut our expenses. The tax increase isn't even going toward government services or cutting the deficit, it's going toward redistribution.

I really don't understand how people have come to believe that in the current economy raising taxes on their employers is going to be good for the employees and good for the economy. People complain about the unemployment rate and their salaries and then vote to raise taxes on their employers.

Welfare is a tangled web that the government weaved. Now they're stuck in it. Welfare used to be the church's responsibility, but the government wanted control over that money. Now if the church wanted to give to help a needy family, the government sees it as an 'income' and wants to take it from the single mom with four kids.

Big government control is not what is needed in this country. People think that's the answer, but it's not. The more control the government wants over my life the more nervous I get. I don't need a dictatorship forcing me to succumb to this slavery.

And for those who think I'm nuts to call it slavery pray tell me what else is it when a single mom with four kids on welfare can't get a job because if she does her aid diminishes to the point that she loses everything she has anyway? It's a catch 22 and I have personally been put in that place more times that you'll ever imagine. In the early years of my marriage we faced insurmountable odds and your big fancy government who 'answers the problems of all society' caused us to almost lose our home, we did lose our car, and had to go to food closets just to feed our kids. And we worked! We have never lived above our means. We were being forced into their system or we would have been homeless. Their system didn't work for us. They wanted our SS#'s our birth certificates, our bank statements, etc. They wanted forms that didn't even apply to us or they would deny us help. They actually finally had to close the case on us and NOT force us to meet their criteria because in our situation it flat out didn't work. They finally AGREED with us and left us alone. They tried to force our kids into the public school and our infant into daycare. Big Government? No thanks. I'd rather go back to the churches being able to help folks. But you won't find the government allowing our country to do that. No of course not they want the money and they want to control it. By the way, the church is supposed to have the freedom of religion to express their beliefs and obey their Book, but the government took away their right to help the needy.

Sure, I know Dickens was a novelist, but most scholars agree that he was reflecting the conditions of his time.

TOS violation is what comes to mind with both of your posts.

Interesting... that %600 to the low income was assumed to be spent in the communities to boost the economy. It didn't. People used it to pay their bills and many of them didn't even break even at that point. I also think that even low income families are not wise with their money. There are homeless people living in shelters that own cell phones and get their nails done every two weeks. All while they bring their children to homeless shelters to food and a bed.

The American people whether rich or poor, need to be wiser with their money.

"You do recall that Clinton reformed welfare such that people can receive welfare for no more than five years total for their entire lives. Your alleged single mother of four still on welfare must be a baby machine. ;)"

Is there a link to this law? I have never seen a mom, even those who are no longer having children, get cut off. In addition to this, do you know how many people fake mental illness so they can get SSI?
