At least Obama is telling us exactly what his philosophy of government actually.

I honestly don't think that redistribution is the answer. If people of all income levels would live on their NEEDS only for a while things could get better. But how do you convince billions of people to lower their own spending? Yes those who sell plasma TV's and luxury cars would suffer. Materialism is a wicked thing and look at where it got us. Yet had people had lived by the wise financial principles that have been handed down through the generations we would be in a different boat right now.

So you can't even point to what I said that you feel violates anything. Like I said, you think I violated something report it.

Karen, I feel like you're twisting what I'm saying. I am a good person who is trying to make a practical point. In an earlier post, I wrote that the correlation between well-being and income flattens out well before you get to 250K a year. There comes a point where having more money is not going to make you happier or healthier. Do you really argue that point? So if the money you make above that amount is taxed at a higher rate, so that it can go toward helping the public good, which also benefits you, then why is that immoral or even remotely comparable to killing someone or enslaving them? That was my original point. There is absolutely no reason to jump from the point I'm making to talking about the government taking all of your property away, Obama wanting to "own us all," and the "entitled" attitude in our society. If I twist your argument in a similar way, I could be in utter shock and dismay that people think they have the "right" to more money than they could possibly enjoy without having to give anything back to the government infrastructure that made that possible. Can we both put the melodrama aside?

"People complain about the unemployment rate and their salaries and then vote to raise taxes on their employers."

Karen, the scenario that I was describing is the progressive tax system that we already have in place and that McCain has publicly defended. I wasn't even referring to Obama's tax plan. Absinthe was arguing that the progressive tax system is immoral and I am arguing that it's not.

I'm not saying they necessarily have a "right" to take it; I'm saying it is not remotely like enslaving someone or killing them.

Actually, I'd argue that you are.

I didn't comment on the other points because, for example, I don't know your ancestors, and so can't comment on their trials.

As far as people dropping out of school now, or becoming prostitutes, that happens already, so why does changing the system make it any different?
