At least Obama is telling us exactly what his philosophy of government actually.

Does stimulating the economy count as "the common good"? I don't see why we are all still arguing about this. The goal of both tax plans is to stimulate the economy. You can argue that one plan will do this better than the other, but to say that Obama's plan is extortion, and McCain's is not, when both are preserving the progressive tax system but differ by a couple of percentage points in the rates....it just seems like an attempt to be provocative. There's a great article in the New Yorker about this. Whether you think its liberally biased or not, it makes some excellent points.

If you stop for a moment and think, is it really all that bad? Why shouldn't those that have more, pay their fair share?
Define "fair share".
Who are you to judge what is for the common good?
what is really humorous to me is that McCain's campaign slogan is 'COUNTRY FIRST'-
>>Transfer payments of any sort - where the government is propping up something or someone at the expense of others - constitute theft. Whether it is money being spent to bail out AIG, or agricultural subsidies or Section 8 housing subsidies, it is the government "robbing Peter to pay Paul, with the emphasis on the word "ROBBING".<<
This is such a short-sighted view that I am not sure where to begin.
You do realize that abysmal poverty levels are a drain on our system outside of any government assistance, right? For one example, look at poor kids in schools. They eat less and come to school hungry. As a hungry child, their attention span is negatively affected. They require more school resources than a child who is well fed. At the same time, without government assistance it would be even worse - these kids would be moving around much more or even homeless. Less opportunity and means to get their school work done = even more at school resources used to get the kids on track.
Also, taxes help fund programs like JTPA (Jobs Through Partnership Act), which has helped more than one disadvantaged person go from being on welfare to contributing to the taxes our country collects - in essence, paying BACK the government.
Now, you may not care that others suffer, but I do. I refuse to take the cold-hearted stance that people can die in the street and it's "not my problem". It IS my problem. These are my fellow countrymen and women. This is my home.

Couple of comments here...
There are two different issues here - one is the money that is being taken, the other is where the money is going.
i can not believe all the greedy people out there saying he is going to tax us more
As opposed to those "greedy" people who are voting for Obama because Obama will give them a bigger tax break than McCain?
"You may not be aware of this, but there is a legal concept of "consent under duress".
