My husband and I don't make what you do but we are in the six figure range. We feel we are doing OK and we are also supporting Obama. I've just looked up the median household income in this country (US Census) it is $50,233. This is really sad that there are people on this board who make double this amount who are complaining that they don't have enough.

The tax only applied to estates that were in excess of five million.

There has never been a seizure of funds from the lower classes to award as a gift to the upper classes. You are misinformed. It has always been the other way around. The wealthiest pay perhaps 1000% of the tax dollars as do those making under $50,000.

Please, The Bush administration has cut back on programs for the poor and has run up the national debt (for everyone) to finance his tax cuts for the rich. This is absolutely a redistribution of the the wealth. The redistribution also has occurred because there has been a reduction away from taxing the income of the rich. Instead other taxes and user fee have been assessed that have a greater impact on the poor, for example the gas tax or FICA tax. Poor people pay FICA on 100% of their income while the richer you are the smaller percent of your income is taxes.

The statement about payment of 1000% of the tax dollar makes no sense.

Easy to say when you're redistributing someone else's wealth...

Theft is immoral, regardless of whether it is done by an individual or
by the government.

I must say I'm am constantly in awe of the absolute greed so easily expressed by others. Consider your no government world. That means no schools, no police protection, no hospitals, you get to pay every time you pass over another persons property because there will be no public roads. There will be no consumer protection. Gee we can be like China, where the milk producers add melamine to the milk and kids die. No courts, not jails.

There are some great models for the pure capitalist little government model.

I agree. The top 1% own 38% of the wealth in this nation. They can handle a little more tax. Fifty percent of American families earn less than $50233.

It makes me a little sick every time I hear right wing scum talk spout that these people pay no taxes. When in fact they pay more than their fair share of taxes, in terms of FICA, sales taxes, and user fees.

Oh, I thought it was the DCAA you were commenting on since that was what your article was about. You know they're not private contractors. They're some of those "oversight" folks you lamented we didn't have enough of......

Well the fact just so happens to be they pay NO FEDERAL TAXES. You know that money some other folks chip in to pay for running the country?

And the stats will show you that those who pay the least use the most in services.

Maybe if the government weren't handing them so many freebies/subsidies they might actually demand higher wages and could become great contributors to society. But they like their bread crumbs I suppose.
