Some Hollywood Stars' Thoughts on Palin

I never knew that I could agree more with people that have so much money, influence, and talent.

***************************************************************************************
***************************************************************************************

"sarah p -- elisabeth h

= identical cousins

women who hunt in high heels gives one pause."

-- Rosie O'Donnell, on her blog, taking a dig at Elisabeth Hasselbeck, with whom she worked on "The View"

************************************************************************************

"I don’t think I would want her running the country.... I’m not going to vote for her because she’s a woman.

"We disagree on a lot of issues, and that’s why I support Obama and Biden.”

-- Eva Longoria on TV's "Extra"

**************************************************************************************

"This woman hates women.…She is not a feminist. She is not the woman that's going to come behind Hillary Clinton and do anything that Hillary Clinton would've been capable of.... I can't imagine overturning Roe vs. Wade. She's not of this time. The woman terrifies me."

-- Pink to PopEater

****************************************************************************************

"As someone who has spent over 40 years advocating on behalf of women both politically and philanthropically, as someone who was a strong supporter of Hillary Clinton and as someone who cares deeply about the health and welfare of all women, hear me Senator McCain: This calculated, cynical ploy to pull away a small percentage of Hillary's women voters from Barack Obama will not work. We are not that stupid!”

-- Barbara Streisand, on her blog

***************************************************************************************

I think there’s a really good chance that Sarah Palin could be president, and I think that’s a really scary thing, 'cause I don’t know anything about her -- I don’t think in eight weeks I’m going to know anything about her. I know that she was a mayor of a really, really small town and she’s the governor for Alaska for less than two years. I just don’t understand. I think the pick was made for political purposes.... Do the actuary tables and there’s a 1 out of 3 chance, if not more, that McCain doesn’t survive his first term and it’ll be President Palin…. It’s like a really bad Disney movie. The hockey mom, you know, ‘Oh, I’m just a hockey mom’… and she’s facing down President Putin …. It’s totally absurd …. It’s a really terrifying possibility.”

-- Matt Damon, Associated Press

************************************************************************************

"At first I thought Sarah Palin was some kind of Republican pandering -- a misguided attempt to woo Hillary voters over to the dark side, as if they believed women voters were so stupid that they would vote for anyone in a skirt, but now I see that she is much, much worse. I have nothing against hockey moms -- I just don’t want to be one. If Sarah Palin had her way, she would take away that right not to be a mom. She wants to outlaw abortion -- so to call her a feminist is as laughable as calling evangelicals ‘Christians.’ They shouldn’t have the right to call themselves Christian, for they have no Christ-like attributes."

-- Margaret Cho, on her blog

************************************************************************************
"It's amazing that a woman has come that far. But from what I know about her, her policies are not things I agree with."

-- Meg Ryan, during a press junket for "The Women"

It's interesting how many people say "I don't care what "they" say", yet feel the need to let everyone know exactly that. lol. And if stars are so outside of "real" life...why do they capture the nuances of life and emotion so well that they win awards and attention that they love so much? lol.

I think it is as one poster stated, and very well IMHO, that actors know b.s. when they see it, and so the GOP would not naturally appeal to them. lol. Makes perfect sense in an imperfect world. And how are statements that are directed at Sarah's political views considered bashing? Sensitive, isn't she? Barack's family was attacked and yet the right thought that was perfectly fine. Selective in their double standard, too. lol.

I think that it is a pivotal moment in history when stars, who often remain neutral, feel the need to speak out for or against a candidate. As citizens of this country, in the past, stars could have been and were "black listed" never to work with the same liberties again. Some even felt the need to leave the country to find work abroad.

So, in essence, stars are similar to the canary in the mine shaft. When they feel the need to speak out...people should listen, because they have the wealth to leave America, but instead they stand their ground and voice their opinions. That's pretty brave considering the Bush43 administration's long arm of censorship.

((Nobody gives a rip about what the guy down the street thinks, so why should we put so much emphasis on what a celeb thinks? ))

I have to disagree with you. I do care what the man/woman down the street thinks. Especially since anybody can run for public office and make policy that directly affects me and my family. Now, what I do about it...I don't know, except to stay engaged in local events and read the paper, listen to the news. Not to mention, there are children everywhere, so we do need to know a little something about our neighbors.

But Anywho...the celebs hob nob with senators and other elected officials, so they might be privy to information that we don't necessarily know. Just a theory.

I think it's even more simple than that.

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure

Well I personally only see one good thing coming from them getting what they want; They will have to fork over 45% of the value of their estates (obama plans to tax estates over $5mil by 45%..read here http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/obama/1031268,CST-NWS-tax30.article) to the UNITED STATES instead of giving hand over fist to other countries because they have no pride/soft spot for their own. .. Or maybe when they actually see the effects of how increasing taxes on the wealthy trickle down and create more hardships on the middle class and poor, they'll change their mind. Maybe then everyone will be calling for change again. Big corps will find a way to pass on the extra costs of things..Yep we'll be paying MORE for things .. When companies can't afford the tax cuts or the 75% of healthcare costs to employees guess what? Bye Bye Jobs... When "big oil" doesn't get that generous tax cut? Guess what? Hello bigger prices at the pump! ... But let them believe what sounds good, I'm sure we'll here about it one way or another when they don't like the way it has turned out. ... Maybe a lot of people should have been more astute in their economics classes.

> She is talking about whether she believes Palin stands for women's rights - which she clearly doesn't.

But it's quite alright if they are Republican and become President like Ronald Reagan, or how about Arnold Shwartzenager? Or Sonny Bono? The famous are ok in your book if they are Republican, am I not correct?

Correct. Your "sincerests hopes" are realized. I was not telling a member to shut up, I was telling Hollywood entertainers to shut up.

That being said... If I DID want to tell an Ivillage member to shut up.... I would. But, I would probably never want to because, I do believe you should be able to say what you want. Even if it is rude.

My point is that I am sick and tired of entertainers saying "vote this way!" and people even listening. Who cares what entertainers think? They just people like us.

Hope this cleared things up.
