It hasn't been a week yet since Obama became the President-elect, but I'm already hearing, and seeing

By definition, they can't be.

I must agree with you on this.

I don't have my own definition. I go by the generally accepted definition one would find in a dictionary.

It sounds like your DH would fit the definition. But I don't know what he does/says in public so I'm only assuming.

And as far as your comment regarding veterans - My DH signed on and served in Iraq during Bush's second term. He did not vote for Bush

Great question. That's why I could say for sure that he was. It would depend on his behavior and motivation. Maybe he wanted the benefits. Maybe he was close to retiring. So long as he did his job and didn't aid the enemy or cause problems among his fellow service members by trying to undermine authority, he'd still qualify. Maybe he's a good leader who felt he could do some good. We don't know.

I know what you mean about the "Mr. Bush" thing. It's always struck me funny the Ronald Reagan referred to Mikhail Gorbachev as "Mr. Gorbachev" in his famous Tear Down the Wall speech. I didn't seem to have the level of respect that should have been shown.

There were quite a few men of history that would disagree 100% with your statement.

As another poster already pointed out, a patriot is a person who loves and defends their country. My DH could say anything he wants about President Bush and his decisions and he would still be a patriot.
