It hasn't been a week yet since Obama became the President-elect, but I'm already hearing, and seeing

Yes,
As I stated before I do believe it started out as a "bad habit" (pp's point) that the media created.

I agree the only time we are suppose to go to war is to defend the Constitution.
My DH signed on with the Army National Guard in 2006 at 34 years old. He received no benefits for enlisting (no sign-on bonus, no health insurance, etc.) aside from free college tuition that is offered to all guard members (a benefit that he has yet to take advantage of). I think that his real reason for joining was that he was looking for a purpose in life. He didn't support the war in Iraq and it upset him greatly to see such young soldiers, kids really, dying in a misguided war. He felt that at 34 years old, he had been blessed to experience marriage and starting a family. He didn't think it was fair that many of those poor soldiers didn't have that same chance. He signed on with the hope of being deployed so that he could fill the spot of a young soldier and hopefully prevent the death of another "kid". He has since signed on for 6 more years and has volunteered to go to Afghanistan. He feels that he has not yet done his duty fighting the war on terror b/c the "real" war is going on not in the desert of Iraq, but in the mountains of Afghanistan.

That's one of the most unusual reasons I heard of to join the military.
I hung up my uniform in 1991 because it no longer made sense to stay in if I could not fully support the CAUSE for war.
Come on!
Please explain what we are defending in the Constitution and why we are at war in Iraq?
For the first part of your question:
Since the Constitution stipulates that Congress "raises and supports a standing army" and that the President is "commander in chief" of that army, when a soldier is fighting in Iraq because Congress and the President ordered them to do so he is "defending the Constitution".

I believe your husband's reasons for serving in the capacity he has are admirable.
Of course you have every right to express yourself and I in no way want to deny you that right. I was merely trying to state that if someone is concerned with the direction that our country is going or they are unhappy with the administration in charge then rather then complain and say remarks such as "Don't blame me, I didn't vote for him.", those people should take steps to try to improve our country. Actually, everyone should support the country in one way or another. That was my point. Feel free to say "I told you so" all you want but if you're not doing your part to make things better, then you have no right to complain. You know the saying, "If you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem."
