Why?
In no way is the same as a validation study.

According to this they did not do a validation study of this test.
Welcome to the board!
And isn't the bigger question more about WHY did race even play a role in this test?
Take two teens, one with a 2400 SAT, one who lives in the inner city.
Take them out of their current environments, place them in a different inner city, say... LA, there overnight, living on the street. Are you suggesting that the inner city teen would survive better on the street because they are from the
I don't believe they have an equal chance. One has the intelligence, 'street smarts' we like to call it, the other does not. Environment can have a huge impact on how we measure intelligence, and who we decide is or isn't intelligent.
My daughter scored 2200 on her SAT's. She knows her way around the subway system, she knows not to make eye contact while using the subway and she knows how to use mace. I could go on because yes, she is "street smart" too. She is an "inner city" teen AND she is smart! See you can be both, just because you are from the inner city does not mean that you are dumb or can't score high on your SAT's and just because you score high on your SAT's does not mean that you are not street smart.
I'm suggesting that our most commonly used measures of intelligence are inherently flawed, and the mere fact of outstanding achievement on an SAT is not in and of itself an indicator one is more intelligent than a child of less fortunate circumstance.
Our minds abhor a vacuum, and they work to our environment, for obvious reasons. I used that example to illustrate that the chance of survival shifts with environment, and one is better prepared mentally to cope with that environment.
We should not assume the SAT person is automatically more intelligent than the other - and vice versa, of course.
