Stem Cell Research? Where do you stand?

Do you favor it because of all the potential good that can come from it?

Are you against it because of the use of human embryos?

Would you favor in the cases where embryonic stem cells are not used?

Let's talk some issues.

I am very much for stem cell research. I have an uncle with Parkinsons...and know several people who have gone through Altzimer's. Stem cell research has promising leads to uncover the key to defeating many many illnesses and diseases. My uncle's form of Parkinson's is very advanced right now. He can't hold his eyes open at times..even when trying to force them open....he will stand in a corner of a room and not know how to get out. It' heartbreaking...and financially draining. My aunt and uncle were very good with money...saving..investing...having insurance..and now they are struggling with everything. He has had 2 brain surguries...therapy....medication...and many many other costs. I hope that someday science can help people like my uncle...so they will be spared this devastation. He isn't even the same person anymore. He forgets who people are and he is agressive and mean. He was never like this before. Is it only

I agree, I think that it's unlikely we will be needed embryonic stem cells much longer, (which is good in that it will take the pressure off I hope)and as the embryos that are used are ones that are about to be destroyed anyway, we really need to give the scientist this tool.

Do you favor it because of all the potential good that can come from it? Yes

Are you against it because of the use of human embryos? No, they are not viable life and they are being warehoused indefinitely and in some cases dumped.

Would you favor in the cases where embryonic stem cells are not used? if that is an equal alternative, yes.

I typed this elsewhere but will repeat here:
my father died of Parkinson's Disease. a long slow lingering loss over many years. my almost grown children say they don't remember what he was like before. stem cell research was never going to improve his life - but i am against locking away the potential answers to a remedy to people faced with his suffering in the future. and i am against slamming science and innovation because of an unsupported belief system.

I'm sorry for your loss. My uncle has Parkinsons's and is at a fairly advanced stage. I too hope for a cure..so no one else has to watch a loved one slip away like that. My heart goes out to you..as I truly understand what a toll it takes on a family.

I'm all for it. I think it would put to good use the unused embyos that are left frozen and then tossed.
