Flat tax!
I am a Republican voting Obama this year, and though I like Obama, and I think his ideas are generally sound, it feels a little like he has been playing a lot of Sim City, adjusting the numbers up and down, sort of "tinkering", trying to come up with the perfect balance.
I would like to him do more for small business, and when he let's the Bush tax cuts expire for the wealthy, I'd like to him to limit the "increase" to 5% max.
I sort of feel like for
A Federal sales tax, excluding food, is my favorite idea as well. That way everyone would pay even it the money was not made legally(disagree with that of course but it happens and of course it is tax free money) or if you are not a citizen, doesn't matter the government is getting its cut whenever you make a purchase. I think the government would get a lot more money and the rich would pay more by default because they spend more money. If the rich paid more that way it wouldn't bother me because it is their choice to spend more and buy expensive items. Instead of being disgusted about the number of cars someone has or how much their outfit costs you could be happy for all the tax they paid on those items, lol.
Flat tax with only a low personal deduction and no loopholes is my second favorite idea.
For the record I am an Independent.
I don't like the notion of a national sales tax.
Just as I don't favor a progressive income tax, I don't favor a regressive sales tax.
I agree. I don't agree with national sales tax either, same reason.
What do you think is best? (flat tax, flat tax, flat tax) Do you support federal taxes at all? Or do you think states should manage their own taxes and roll collected taxes "up" for federal/interstate funded ventures?
<<...it simply becomes a hidden tax, and I want people to know how much they are sending to Washington>>
Never thought of it that way. Hmm...I don't know how much I give my state in sales tax, maybe I don't like that idea so much. Maybe flat tax would be my first choice, but I would still prefer a sales tax over the current system.
