"when I was in school (long long time ago) it was considered embarrassing to wind up pregnant in HS."

Same here...and it wasn't quite as long ago as you!! ;)

In fact my hubby was asking my high school Jr. how many girls were pregnant in his school.

I know this is going to go over fantastically....but....

I DON'T think they should be in mainstream high school.

Now, before you all get yer panties in a bunch, I am NOT suggesting they don't finish high school. I'm just sick of these high school campuses with daycares on site. That's what continuation high schools are for. I believe that having pregnant girls proudly walking around campus (and I DO believe high-fives indicate pride) and cute adorable little babies being toted to and from campus tend to glamorize and perpetuate the myth that its fun, its easy and its cool to have babies.

As for what to do for these girls now, they need indoctrination into the real world of parenting. Not homecomings, proms, pep rallies and lunch in the quad with their cliques. They need mentors to teach them, guide them and help prepare them for the reality of childbirth, infant care and child development.

Locally speaking, there is a mission within my church that does just that with a half-way house for teen mothers in the LA area. With my lactation education qualification and my training as a doula (not to mention my experience as a mother of five and a child care provider) it is mission work that I'm very much looking forward to volunteering for as soon as my baby is in preschool or kindergarten. If I lived in MA, I'd do the same for "these girls".

As long as teenaged dads are barred from campus as well, I'd almost go along with your theory.

You know what...I'm right there with you! They're going to need the same newborn care instructions, not to mention a near full time job to help with child support!!

Who's paying for this seperate school, with all additional services?

If you get the chance, I highly recommend the movie "The Magdeline Sisters" as
