My family's hearts and thoughts go out to the people in LA, MS and TX during this horrible hurricane called Gustav.

I believe in God, was raised Catholic and never got the whole 'born again' spiel - but seriously I am soooo tired of people thinking that God is sitting around planning to endanger people and cause millions in property damage because he wants a specific person to be president of the US. Really, if he has that much time on his hands don't you think he should be looking into Darfur? Or China? Or Georgia? To my mind it takes a lot of hubris to think that God actually gets involved in our day to day mundane decisions. Really - lets be a bit more humble about our importance and focus making reasoned decisions!

No, I don't think God plays political games by killing a bunch of folks off so as to disrupt the Republican National Convention.

I didn't say to kill a bunch of people, just to stir up the weather and force the Republicans to focus on the storm.

The story has already killed a bunch of people.

Seriously - don't you think if God was actually involved in the election at all he could come up with a better way of picking a president than causing a hurricane???? I never ceased to be amazed that otherwise intelligent people think of God as a great big chess player moving pieces around a game board. Honestly I really doubt he is involved in our politics - after all there are and have been far worse rulers in the world that he didn't thrust natural disasters on! Really in the grand scheme of things do you think America is the only country of importance in the history of the world???

Glad to hear - but I hear that line of reasoning every day where I live makes me wonder about organized religion.
