"I think we deserve a president who really understands how to engage in diplomacy and can prevent military conflicts before they start. I think we deserve a president who can rally our allies and focus our resources on missions that have a clearly-defined purpose. I think that Obama can do both of those things and that he's a whole lot tougher than you think he is. Diplomacy is not cowardly. It takes tremendous strength and control to engage in it correctly."
I'm evaluating his interaction style, how he handles people who disagree with him, and his ability to think about issues from multiple perspectives. Diplomacy is about listening; its about putting your opponent at ease by not coming across as hostile; its about finding common ground or points of agreement rather than demonizing --all skills that I perceive in Obama in his speeches, interviews, debating style, and the general tone of his campaign. I think that his personal history equips him with a deep respect for different cultural backgrounds, which makes it easier for him to think about problems from different cultural perspectives. I'm also taking into account the good opinion that people all around the world are forming of him. The man sure knows how to charm people, and that kind of person, in my opinion, can make citizens of other nations happy to stand behind the US, and can make hostile nations more willing to compromise.
Well, if one of them were on the verge of death, it would be our business, because hey, who wants to elect someone who's going to keel over a few months into his presidency?
John McCain, Sarah Palin, and Joe Biden have given full medical records to the American people.
As far as I know, Sarah Palin has not yet released any sort of medical records. In her interview with Brian Williams earlier this week, she was asked if she would release them. She said she was healthy and that, if it were necessary, she would release them. I am definitely a news junkie, but I haven't seen any reports of her medical records yet. And I know that as of Tuesday, which I'm pretty sure is when she did that interview, she hadn't released any sort of records.
If you have these records, please post a link to them because I haven't seen them yet.
People are so blinded because of President Bush and because McCain is white.
Erm, you mean because Obama is black?
If race mattered that much to me, then gender would matter more and I'd vote for McCain. Why? Because he has a female running mate who stands a reasonably good chance of ending up as POTUS because McCain is old and has had serious health issues.
However, since gender does not matter as much as having a good leader, I turn away from McCain. What I have seen of McCain tells me that he cannot be trusted to lead. He's opportunistic to a fault (McCain > Everyone else) and has irresponsibly chosen a running mate who is not ready to be second in command of this country, let alone first in command.
