As a PP stated, there is a seperation between church and state.
I don't really care what his minister said. I don't really care Obama was a member for 20 years. I don't care for church at all, actually.
What I DO care about is Obama's political views and what his plan is to help this country out of the ruin it has become. Did you know Florida has officially declared a recession? What would Obama do to help? That is the kind of things I care about, not religious views. What does Wright's view have to do with leading the country? Absolutely nothing, IMO. I highly doubt Obama is racist etc. or whatever the silly things are that are being said. I understand you may not feel as I do about religion, but I just don't feel religion has a place in politics.
ETA: I understand many people do not feel the way I do re: religion and politics. However, the OP was directed to Obama supporters, and as I am one, I felt compelled to offer my opinion. Powered by CGISpy.com
" I do not personally know ONE person who attends a church that they do not believe in" I've known several. I know an atheist who attended (and brought his children to) Catholic services so they could get some moral training. I know an atheist who attended Baptist Church for the fellowship. Many people fear losing the sense of community and belonging they get while attending a church they've been with for a while.
In any case, this person was Obama's preacher, not Obama himself.
In the case of McCain, we have clear knowledge that he himself hates asians - not his preacher, him. Of course this may not be important to some people, because it's not so bad if a guy hates a minority race rather than the majority.
I said I was only able to listen to maybe an hour of one and was so disgusted I had to stop and hopefully will never listen to that again. Too much hate for me in one hour.
You were listening to sermons Rev Wright presented at Trinity, and an hour was only a portion of the sermon? Are you sure you were listening to his sermons??

Obviously the point about the tax exempt status in my original post was confusing. I did mean that the church couldn't, as a church, back a candidate.
Thanks for pointing out the distinction!! Wouldn't want to inadvertantly give bad info.
