Thoughts on Paul Ryan?

I'm kind of new to iVillage, so I hope I'm posting in the right place!
I was just wondering what you think about Romney's VP choice. I don't know a lot about Paul Ryan, so I don't have much of an opinion yet.

You do realize that David Brooks writes for the NYT?
""And his fiscal plan is about as extreme as Obamacare""
What about Ryan's budget seems extreme? Do you not agree that we need to do something to curb spending and get our debt under control and also modernize entitlements, as they are unsustainable as is?
Over and over again, both parties have acted as though their "solution" involves EITHER cutting spending or raising taxes, instead of the far more realistic, if not politically pure, BOTH.
You're right! Since the announcement of Ryan, I have heard a lot more about the important issues of this election.
I have been confused though, why the left is attacking Ryan on his plan for Medicare when the CBO's own analysis of Obamacare assesses a cut of $743 billion? I hope the media will keep on topic, so that people can actually learn the truth. However, there is such a bias in the MSM, I'm not holding my breath!

Congrats to your son! I wish you had informed me of the car wash. I would have taken my vehicle to have it washed. I wonder if it was at the CVS near me? I live very close to NAB.

Prove it--the claim that there's "such a bias in the mainstream media". I get a chuckle when conservatives (they're the ones who more commonly use that particular phrasing) act as though "mainstream media" is especially prejudiced on issues. ANY media outlet has some degree of subjectivity, even by deciding what stories to cover. Apparently it's only noteworthy when that bias is NOT according to one's own beliefs/opinions.
Out of idle curiosity, is there some outlet you believe to be dispassionate and balanced?
As for Medicare, I am all for being more judicious about who qualifies for what. But what about all those "death panels".......?
Yes, I do realize that David Brooks writes for the NYT. I am also aware that he is impressed by the creases in PBO's pants. I quoted his statement because it stands to reason that if he could see the brilliance in Ryan's plan, then it must be overwhelmingly obvious!

Proving that there is bias in the media is as simple as paying attention. In the last few days:
Solidad O'brien was caught using a left wing blog, Talking Points, to conduct an interview with Barbara Comstock of Virginia. She quoted it directly without giving credit to her "source".
CBS (Bob Schieffer) edited out important key portions of the 60 minute Romney/Ryan interview. I wonder why?
Andrea Mitchell as been caught editing out entire sentences, to create a statement that fits her ideology.(Wawa video) Just this weekend she commented that the Ryan pick "is not a pick for women". A fine statement for a pundit to make, but not someone claiming to be a journalist reporting the news. Was that news she was reporting or her biased opinion?
Candy Crowley, who also claims to be a journalist, called the Romney/Ryan ticket "the death wish ticket". Her biased opinion, not news
Obviously, you hear Republicans or conservatives use the phrase "bias in the media", because Democrat candidates get favorable news coverage. In 2008 The Pew Research Center found that Obama received more positive coverage than negative, with about 40% of news stories about him being "clearly positive in tone" . For McCain they found that 60% of news stories about him were clearly negative with only 14% having a positive tone.
