I'm kind of new to iVillage, so I hope I'm posting in the right place!

I was just wondering what you think about Romney's VP choice.  I don't know a lot about Paul Ryan, so I don't have much of an opinion yet.

Here's another interesting study on the bias in the media. It is a study done by  Tim Groseclose of UCLA and Jeff Milyo of the University of Missouri at Columbia. They  used think tank quotes, in order to estimate the relative position of mass media outlets in the political spectrum. Their findings.......

"Our results show a strong liberal bias: all of the news outlets we examine, except Fox News’ Special Report and the Washington Times, received scores to the left of the average member of Congress. Consistent with claims made by conservative critics, CBS Evening News and the New York Times received scores far to the left of center."

I did provide the information ..........."the transcript of what aired on "60 minutes"  and the unedited version that was posted on their internet site". Let me know if you need help googling those two items. I'm not terribly computer savvy, but I can help you figure that one out.,

I call it like I see it with people who claim they are simply "asking questions" about how Obama got into Harvard, etc.

LOL! So that makes Inhofe an environmental/science expert.  Rightwinger logic...there's nothing more amusing.

<<And while I don't think taht makes him an "economist" it does make him more educated about the topic than someone without that education.>>

That's true.

I'll ignore the rightwinger logic response per the recent request of the iVillage mod..........The definition of economist was stated. It is my opinion that Ryan falls into the category. It is also my opinion than Stockman and Ryan have similar experiences, so they are either both economists or neither are. We can't really have it both ways, can we?  I argue that they both fall into the category of economist based on their similar educations and work experience on budget committees, etc. You certainly have every right to look at their similar experiences and determine for your purposes that one falls into the category of economist and the other doesn't.

To all who were wondering about Romney's blatant lies about Obama:

Claims that Obama cut $700 billion from Medicare, stole that money: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/aug/15/stephanie-cutter/ryans-plan-includes-700-billion-medicare-cuts-says/

Claims that Obama is taking away rights of military to vote: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/aug/4/romney-obama-lawsuit-targeting-military-voting-rig/

Obama is going to gut welfare: http://factcheck.org/2012/08/does-obamas-plan-gut-welfare-reform/

And let's not forget when Romney purposefully misled people by playing of clip of Obama actually quoting someone else: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/nov/22/mitt-romney/mitt-romney-says-obama-said-if-we-keep-talking-abo/

That's just for starters.

"Nor was there an even-handed decrying of obvious bias in conservative outlets"

What obvious bias in conservative outlets are you referring to? I see no examples, specifics or links to support your claim????????

In your opinion, what makes Stockman an economist?

My, how convenient for you! Folks with tunnel vision only see the one thing they want to see, like those who see racism where there is none.

It has the added benefit of not having to answer the question, since, you know, it is obviously racist to ask how an admittedly drugged up student got into an ivy league school. LOL!

I was the one who brought Stockman into the discussion for his take on the Ryan budget.

As director of OMB, he was perhaps the most vocal spokesman for Reagan's supply side budget policies early in his administration, He is/was not an economist.
