And just forget about tying to say Atheism is a "religion" or that they have some special religious event they hold sacred that is held at the same time as Christmas and commands them to disparage traditional religions during their periods of celebration.
>>Surely you understand that Christmas is a "Christian" religious holiday? So the time to display something of a Christian religious nature would be at "Christmas Time". <<
And surely you understand that a government building that displays only the religious symbols of one religion is violating the establishment clause?
I understand that Atheists do not celebrate a holiday at the same time as Christmas but that does not take away from their freedom to express their views no matter what time of year it is. If a government building is going to have a Christian display then other groups have the right to have their views represented as well. Both the Atheist and the Christian are represented by the same government so if you are going to display one group's beliefs then you have to allow the other's as well. Whether I agree with someone else's beliefs or not doesn't matter b/c they are protected by our consitution.
"I'm sure you're aware that Christmas is not an American holiday, correct? It's a religious holiday and nobody should be expected to celebrate it just b/c they live in America. American does not automatically mean Christian."
Actually, to Christians it is still a religious holiday - but to many others it has evolved into something quite secular.
<<I was just telling DH the other day that I feel like I'm such an old fuddy-duddy or something, because the way kids dress these days just disgusts me.
