Hey all, I'm new here, but I wanted to talk about what I thought was the most intriguing part of Obama's speech. In fact, I kinda wish he went a little farther with this.
"Just as black anger often proved counterproductive, so have these white resentments distracted attention from the real culprits of the middle class squeeze – a corporate culture rife with inside dealing, questionable accounting practices, and short-term greed; a Washington dominated by lobbyists and special interests; economic policies that favor the few over the many. And yet, to wish away the resentments of white Americans, to label them as misguided or even racist, without recognizing they are grounded in legitimate concerns – this too widens the racial divide, and blocks the path to understanding."
The idea that resentment against affirmative action, desegregation policies in schools, redistributive economic policies, and immigration have a root, but that it is misguided. It should be aimed at corporate culture that doesn't give a second thought to abandoning its workers just to make a slightly higher profit.
In an effort to avoid closing this thread, we're asking that you refocus your discussion back to the general topic of the Obama speech and refrain from discussing specific members in a negative light.
Well, I think that resentment over affirmative action, etc., is not misguided. And I don't think it should be redirected at corporations for their misuse of employees.
Instead, I think both issues are seperate and important in their own rights and should be addressed individually.

Ummmm that was a general statement. There are many in this country who believe the New York Times is the 'be all end all' in journalism.
I happen to disagree.
Sorry if you misunderstood. My intent was not to slam you.
So, you just happened to post that, to me,
I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure
Geez! I know...right?!?!
The back-n-forth has gotten ridiculous on this thread.

Hmmm, I have an inkling as to who it might be, but I could be wrong. ;-)
