I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure

The link I see between resentment over affirmative action and corporate/economic policies is that we have an economy and a culture that says only a few can get ahead. So there is all this anxiety over how we divide up access to the best schools or the best jobs. Why can't we have a system where we don't have to divvy things up? We are the richest nation in the world, but the wealth is so concentrated in the hands of a few that most people end up fighting for a few open slots.

I see this in other areas too. My city right now is talking about changing school attendance boundaries. Everyone is worried that their kid will end up being sent to a bad school. But why can't we make sure all schools are equally good?

Hey... it's always that way here in the Raleigh NC area.

I honestly can't comment on the schools issue because I live in a small town with just a few schools. I am not sure how the city boundary situation works these days.

I agree with you however, on why can't all schools be good. I just don't have the answer to that, but that is one reason why I homeschool. I can make sure my school (LOL) is good.

Right. It ought not be used as a diversionary tactic to remove the heat from oneself.

That is so not true. It depends on whether people are willing to make sacrifices and work extremely hard. None of us were given a right to have everything for nothing...we have the right to make and earn a living...but you must WORK for it. There's nothing wrong with that.

School vouchers would take care of that.

Sure, take money from the school which must take all children, which must serve the needs of English Language leaners, and children with learning disabilities and emotional concerns.....and give it to school which don't have to accept such students.

So are you assuming that those who benefit from affirmative action are getting something for nothing? Anyone who has benefited from any affirmative action policy has also worked extremely hard for the position.

Affirmative Action is a joke.

Would you explain what you mean by that?
