What exactly don't you get?
International involvement can be achieved by 1) giving it an honest effort, 2) having credibility, and 3) allowing other countries to participate in the reconstruction contracts.
What in their opinion is an honest effort other than lip service? How will they gain credibility? Why should other countries who didn't participate in the war effort make money off of the reconstruction? Don't you think that if our country and those who participated in the war effort get a chance at reconstruction this may help the deficit situation or is the pat answer to not worry we'll just tax the wealthy.~Lisa
How will they gain credibility? ***By being honest.
Why should other countries who didn't participate in the war effort make money off of the reconstruction? ***Because it's in their best interests not to have a civil war over there. And because it's stupid (and greedy) to think that we can (or should) do this by ourselves. Most of the globe perceives us a bunch of bullies and honestly, that's not an image that makes me proud.
Don't you think that if our country and those who participated in the war effort get a chance at reconstruction this may help the deficit situation or is the pat answer to not worry we'll just tax the wealthy. ***Ummm, no that wasn't my answer. I'm not interested in helping corporate CEO's achieve even more million dollar bonuses - that isn't my problem. I don't see any connection in how Halliburton and other similar operations are going to help solve the deficit problem. Strange that you try and make that connection. I think first of all, you shouldn't spend money that you don't have. Second, if you find yourself in debt you need to work harder to control spending and look for increased sources of revenue. Personally I think GWB was crazy to dole out the tax cuts he did and I'd gladly give mine back if it meant I lived in a more secure country.
Does that answer your question?
Do you really think John Kerry will be honest?
What does letting other countries participate in the reconstuction have to do with civil war? Why is it greedy for us to do it ourselves? You do the work, you get the benefits. Of course the democratic way appears to be someone else does the work you(general) reap the benefits...;-)
I hate to break it to you but big businesses create jobs thus stimulating the economy. You don't think that Halliburton and these other businesses you seem to despise don't help our economy by providing jobs for people? When you find yourself in a deficit, it doesn't seem wise to me at least to give over reconstruction efforts to other coutries who didn't participate in the first place, in lieu of providing that revenue for your own country. ~Lisa
That's exactly right.
