Sure, although I am a bit dubious about the whole hate crime thing. From one POV, it ought to be bad enough that they beat the guy to a pulp and put him in a coma.

There was also at least one case in Long Island, where locals, whites in this case, beat and maybe even killed (I don't remember) a Mexican guy. I imagine that as the economy continues to lag and unemployment remains high, we may see more and more of this.

From this brief article...probably. But I'm not really sure.

Yes. Despicable.

I have empathy for Mexican immigrants, even the illegal ones....drug addicted American born blacks who make excuses for themselves and chose a life a crime...barely a drop.

Seems like a hate crime to me, but I'm not certain.

Isn't a hate crime one group attacking another group?

I think a hate crime is a crime motivated by hatred for a group of people, not really personal to the victim.

Yes, it probably would be considered a hate crime. As the writer of the article stated:

"When Rodolfo Olmedo was dragged down by a group of men shouting anti-Mexican epithets and bashed over the head with a wooden "

Anti-Mexican sentiment seemed to be the motivation. If they'd have kept their mouths shut as to their motivation for the beating, I'd say "no...not a hate crime."

It doesn't even HAVE to be the motivation.

Yes...you're right...sad, but true.

It sounds like the incidents in the articles were treated like hate crimes by investigators and prosecutors, but the grand jury didn't agree based on the evidence presented.
