I read pages, and pages, of he said she said BUT every little about issues. Why is this?? Are the issues not important or have we become puppets in this presidential election?? I would like to think that we, as adults, are mature enough to focus on this issues for a change. So, with that said, what is the biggest ISSUE that concerns you in this election??

But it was deregulation of the financial markets(hardly a democratic plan) that lead to those institutions needing a bail out.

Interestingly though, most Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac contributions have gone to Democrats, and their staunchest defenders have been Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Barney Frank (D-MA).

The issue is a bipartisan one, and attempts to paint it as strictly a Republican mess are disingenuous at best.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't it take a majority vote in the Senate and House to pass the bailout of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae?

>>And what were the alternative to the bail outs. If we don't bail out the United States faces economic collapse. I wonder why AIG and Bear Stearns get bail outs and Lehman doesn't. We should have expected this type of collapse when we decided to deregulate banking, one of the hallmarks of the Republicans beloved free markets is the boom and bust cycle.

That passed pretty overwhelmingly, by both Dems and Republicans in both. The Republican president does not make these kinds of decisions solo.

>> Remember the Republicans have essentially had control of congress for the past 16 years and thanks to them we are now close to total ruin. I guess Macain will finish us off. Much of our debt is due to the Iraq war, which McCain want to continue for 100 years.

And last I checked, the Dems had the majority vote.

>> What a silly statement. They do not have a meaningful majority especially with Liebermann. Don't you recall a few years ago how Hannity kept blaming the Democrats for legislative issues, when the Republicans had control of both houses and were running up debt like madmen. (By the way don't you recall during the Clinton administration nutboy Hannity mantra was how bad deficits are now he is in love with them, just another conservative hypocrite)
