"As an aside, here our largest Protestant Christian denomination wrote and told our Supreme Court and Parliament that they wished to be able to legally marry us."

That's fantastic!

"So I keep in mind that it's a process, and I'm respectful of where people are in that process. "

I suppose that's all one can ask for :)

"I also keep in mind that I've never met anybody who actually applied all the religious instructions in the Bible to themselves. "

Neither have I. Sanctification is a life long process...

"It surprises me how often Paul is quoted, for ex., by women wearing jewellery and makeup as they say it to me lol, so I know they are quite capable of keeping things in context in regards to themselves, if not others."

Really? You are surprised by that? I'm not in the least. The bible and it's quotes are taken completely out of context, by BOTH sides, that I'm not surprised by much.

For me it is definitely a "process", but I'm not exactly sure it's a religious one. I've been staunchly pro-gay rights in the past...but then there was a period of time where I felt that things were getting a little too "in your face!!" with the movement and it turned me off. I think the tipping point for me was when an elected government official in the administrative branch decided to play law maker AND law interpretor, when really his job was merely to carry out the law. Around that time, I would have to say I probably over-RE-acted to the forceful pendulum swing.

Since that time, the issue doesn't seem to as "flaunted" (for lack of a more sophisticated term) and the movement has allowed time to do the work of changing minds rather than the in-your-face approach that seemed to be so popular in the late 90's. And as such, I'm swinging back into center on the issue.

Anyhoo...that's enough rambling for this Friday night :) And all on the wrong thread too!

It's not unusual for a majority to sometimes think the minority is getting too uppity and find themselves cross about it.

I noticed that you deleted/modified quite a bit tonight...and I realize that you said you'll be taking a break, but I hope you come back even if just to read this!

I hope you can understand (and respect, which is why I asked it in the first place) that some of us are "getting there". I know it's not perfect, but please realize that legally speaking I DO believe we agree. Right now I'm just dealing with my own internal struggle, and if I'm not challenged on it (if you take a break, for example) it won't be as thorough of an examination. I'm not saying it's your job to change my mind :) But I would hate for you to be taking a break because of something I said in this thread!? Besides, if my presence grates on you that much never fear! I'm due for a nice long break from the message boards in about 2 more days!

I hope you'll continue posting :)
