Actually, the part about the Vice-Presidential duties IS in the first article of the Constitution and it says the Vice-President is the President of the Senate but doesn't have a vote unless there is a tie. It in no way says the VP is barred from taking a more pro-active roll in working with the Senate, so I think she was actually right. It's not a surprise to me that she wants to do that as she is known to be pretty hands-on with our legislature here.
I would argue that just because the Constitution does not explicitly bar a VP from taking a more active role in the Senate doesn't mean that the VP therefore can take on a more active role.
Yeah, but she still couldn't actually vote, it would be more in a lobbying capacity. The Pres/VP have always gone down and talked to Senators/Representatives on a variety of issues, I just understood her comment to mean that she would want to do that on a more regular basis. I also think that in her situation it would be more beneficial to do that just to develop some relationships with the Congress. Obviously, Biden wouldn't need to do that as he already has years of relationships already established.
yes, i completely agree. for most of the debate i found palin to be rather likeable even though i disagree withher on many issues. after biden brought attention to his family life i felt like plain's response to that should have been a bit more compassionate, at least acknowledging that her family is not the only who had to struggle at times. but she just kept right on with with her script, with a grin, nonetheless. it REALLY turned me off.
While I'm sure that presidents and VP's talk to senators and representatives about issues, my concern is that she seems to think that Constitution grants the VP more authority than it does and by the way she states it, she seems to think that the VP is in both the Legislative and Executive branches.
This one went right passed me (I was in the kitchen getting my little one some warm milk):
PALIN:
Of course, we know what a vice president does. And that's not only to preside over the Senate and will take that position very seriously also. I'm thankful the Constitution would allow a bit more authority given to the vice president if that vice president so chose to exert it in working with the Senate and making sure that we are supportive of the president's policies and making sure too that our president understands what our strengths are. John McCain and I have had good conversations about where I would lead with his agenda. That is energy independence in America and reform of government over all, and then working with families of children with special needs. That's near and dear to my heart also. In those arenas, John McCain has already tapped me and said, that's where I want you, I want you to lead. I said, I can't wait to get and there go to work with you.

<<So if you use your rational Bill Clinton should have never been elected President of the US.>>
-no. i never said that being governor disqualifies you from being president. i'm saying you need other stills, accomplishmemts, and interests
i fail to see how either gwb's or wjf's governorship is relative to this discussion. as palin would say "there ya goe, bringin' up that past again...
I think it does all relate.
