I just want to see the variety of views there are on this board.

I voted conservative. I consider myself to be a Reagen conservative. I grew up in a conservative home and I guess I would like to pass some of those views/beliefs/morals on to my kids.

Why do you think you are what you are?

I grew up in a very conservative home, in a very conservative religion. To my parents the fact that I support Obama is not only a slap in the face politically, but in their minds, morally. To me, the more I studied about Christ and spent time studying the scriptures the more the conservative line of thought didn't fit with my personal views. Then, life happened and I got some life experience and saw how different life situations can affect people and change them and the opportunities they have and something in me just changed. I could no longer support the conservative movement. I voted for Bush twice, I have voted republican in every election since I turned 18, but now I consider myself liberal. I think this country is going down the wrong path, a path it was led down by the conservative party. BTW, these are my opinions, not things I am putting up for debate. I am willing and able to debate political views, but prefer to do it in person, I do it quite frequently, today in fact, but sometimes I just cannot resist putting my 0.02 in and I love to lurk. You asked what we see as our views, and why so here it is. I also hope to instill my values in my children. I am helping my 6 yr old son organize a bake sale for the charity of his choice, we will do one in our neighborhood and one at his school. He saw a commercial that broke his heart and we talked about how if you feel strongly about something, do something to change it. Now it would be easier for me to break out the checkbook, but so much more meaningful for him to do research about the charity, present it to his class/school, make up flyers for the neighborhood and help me bake goods to sell to help raise money for the charity. We teach them about conservation, recycling, organic farming, buying local... I also feel very strongly that I want my children to feel free to have their own views, not be trapped by mine, I cannot even talk to my parents about a lot of things and have to avoid so much of my life with them because so much of our relationship was wrapped up in our shared belief system, which as I mentioned before combines politics and religions. Anyway, those are my views.

Ya know, I totally agree with you on learning more about Christ and becoming liberal. I can see how so many Christians often vote liberally. Because, Heavenly and Jesus taught free agency. We all get to make our own decisions about things. So, if I were a liberal, I could understand saying "legallize gay marriage, and keep abortion legal". Yeah, I understand that. Let everyone be able to make those decisions, sure. But, my pov is that I don't want this stuff to become the norm, and definetly I don't want it around my kids or something that my kids will grow up to deal with. So, I guess that is why I vote mostly Republican, but not strictly. I'm sorry that you have to deal with that in your family. I couldn't imagine not being able to talk to my parents about politics. But, at least you have learned from this experience and will be able to do different with your kids.
