What Obama means by tax the wealthy
Here's a closer look at how the Democratic candidate defines well-off for different households, and what his proposals will mean for them.

I'm new to this board, and I'll tell you up front that I haven't read every post in this topic so if this has been discussed I apologize.

It was mentioned in an earlier post about a fair tax.

Nah...I say if EVERYONE pays the same percentage, with no loop holes for anyone (the uber rich or those of us with oodles of kids) then it's the fairest way for all. 20% is a bit high...I believe most flat tax propositions have been around 10%-15%.

At 10%-15% the government would NEVER generate enough revenue to pay for it's WARs,ETC.

Most flat tax proposals eliminate taxation on interest, dividends and capital gains.

There's a big difference between Fair and Flat taxes. The Fair Tax is a consumption tax on goods and services. The Flat Tax is closer to what you've described. I see gross inequities to the flat tax, but I could get behind a consumption tax if implemented with some safety nets for the poor. Some services if taxed, like healthcare, would place an unfair burden on the ill.
