What Obama means by tax the wealthy
Here's a closer look at how the Democratic candidate defines well-off for different households, and what his proposals will mean for them.

It's a lot of money no matter where you live in the US, though buying power is certainly reduced in high cost of living areas because essentials, e.g. shelter and food are more expensive. I've lived in both the Bay Area and in Manhattan on a fraction of that income, I rented rather than owned, took public transportation because I didn't own a car. Maybe it was the crowd I traveled with at the time, but no one made anywhere near the top 5% in income though we all supported ourselves quite comfortably.

Do you really think CEOs work harder than other types of workers?

So do migrant farm workers. And US capitalism couldn't get along without either of them.

I agree with you, my main point was, if someone making 25,000 dollars a year pays 10% why should a person paying 300k a year pay 35%.

I see no one paid any attention to MY post - because people making $250,000 a year (which, btw, is a HUGE amount of money in my area - no one here makes that much!) aren't going to even be affected by this.

You are correct on that note.

Are you serious? If a person goes through school, or has a great mind for business...why SHOULDN'T they make as much as the employer is willing to pay?

Some people...in fact MANY people do not believe the amount of money they make is equal to their self worth.

Sounds like you believe otherwise. That's kinda sad.

I'm coming to this thread late, but you hit the nail on the head.

Hard work and achieving the American dream is no longer respected in this country. Anyone who does well...is greedy and selfish.

My heart hurts for what has happened to this country.

>>>I would NEVER begrudge Dr.s the money they make,THEY if anybody deserve to make big bucks.<<<

That's good to hear!

So let me ask you a question. How do you feel about the possibility of Universal Healthcare in America?

>>>People making a lot of money should realize that they ARE going to have to pay more in taxes and shut up and be happy they ARE making a very good salary and living. <<<

I'll tell you right now that if the day came and YOU started making that kind of money --- you'd be ticked that you have to give so much to the gov't too. It's not about sitting there and being happy about it. It's about working your rear off and then without anyone asking if it's ok with you --- just reachin' in and taking whatever amount they've decided that you owe. It's a crock! And you don't understand that, but you would....if it happened to you. Of course, you've already decided it could never happen to you. And quitters never win, you know.

>>>They should try just trying to work from paycheck to paycheck. It isn't easy to do, but yet they continue to whine about it. <<<

How do you know they didn't? Not everyone who is wealthy in this country was a 'trust fund baby' which is where I assume much of your distaste is directed. LOTS of people started with NOTHING and worked their way up to the upper class. And you're going to begrudge them that?!

I truly don't get it.

Look, you don't know ANYTHING about me, and I know nothing about you. I was raised by my grandparents,we were poor, my grandfather used to go drive around to pick up people's newspapers so he could turn them in a make a few extra bucks. They did own a grocery store and got a little rent money from that and his social security. My mother had a nervous breakdown
