I posted this question in the thread about national security but it has gone unanswered -

For those supporting McCain, I often see supporters stating national security as a reason for supporting him but why? What

As I said to you privately, I just don't think "speak softly but carry a big stick" applies to McCain. I've always associated it more with Obama.

I agree... McCain has always been a sabre rattler like Bush. Hardly quiet about anything... he waves that big stick around like a baseball bat & hollers about it at the same time. XD

i am affraid that with Obama, that stick may be tested more than it would with JM

(tested being the key word there)

if i were to use the parental analogy (a good one).....kids test thier parents all the time, and they pull more nonsense with a parent who is "softer" than one who lays down the law.

my dad was a softee, and i would pull so much stuff with him that i wouldn't dare with my mom.

Interesting....I understand the analogy but we must remember that the US is not Mom or Dad to the world - we are not in charge. Other countries are not

Just to follow on the parent-child analogy.

"i am affraid that with Obama, that stick may be tested more than it would with JM"

And I am afraid if McCain is elected that the stick would be used to bash in every government who disagrees with us. Just like kids they will *test* every new head of State. They will with McCain as well.. The difference between the 2 is Obama is more likely to sit down with them & lay out the rules and talk calmly to diffuse situations whereas JM is more likely to head in trumpets blaring & guns blazing. We have had enough of that & so has the rest of the world. It hasn't worked.. time to try a different approach.
