Regarding the comments I have read in this thread and so many others regarding the "distrust" of Obama.
I find it incredibly ironic that people say they don't trust Obama because of things that they cannot prove or defend, while many others don't trust McCain because of things he DID or SAID.
I have heard more "I don't believe when he says he's not a Muslim, or Black Activist, or that he didn't attend church the week the preacher said something that offended ME", than any other criticism of him. I have heard people claim that he has promised free health care for everyone (not true), that he intends to raise everyones taxes in office (not true), and even that he intends to disband the government (???). People get so worked up, calling themselves "educated voters", when their education is often based on viral emails, unaccountable bloggers, and the rants of a talk show hosts, who's jobs are to incite RATINGS, not critical thought. I understand if people think his solutions are wrong, but the feelings of distrust because of Ayres or Rev. Wright or the Muslim whisper campaign all seem to reveal a fear that appears to be, at least subconciously, about race.
I don't know how many remember, but McCain has also been the victim of a vicious whisper campaign, and it sunk him in 2000. How quickly people forget viral emails they forwarded just 8 years ago, about McCain being a manchurian candidate and having a "secret" agenda after being brainwashed by the Vietcong (he did over 30 propaganda films under diress), as well as the rumor that killed him in one state election - that he fathered an illegitimate black child (referring to his and Cindy's adopted daughter from Bangladesh). 8 years ago, the same people destroying Obama in whisper campaigns were doing the same to McCain, giving Bush the nomination.
I am nervous about McCain's gaffs on his overseas trip earlier this year (anyone remember him getting hammered on this during the primaries?), and his flip-flop on the Bush tax cuts (when the economy was STRONGER he thought they were irresponsible), and, of course, "bomb bomb bomb Iran" (is he really that Hawkish)? As a McCain '00 supporter that ended up voting Nader, I am wondering where the McCain I voted for went?
He has also sought council from famous preachers who have said things as frightening as what was uttered by Rev. Wright. Both Palin and McCain are associated with ministers who said frightening things about Jews. This isn't racist? Is the only "scary" racism a statement that expresses distrust of "whitey", aka "the man"?
As far as Ayres, people who cry foul in this relationship seem to refuse to accept that Bush had stronger connections with the Bin Laden's. Do they believe that Bush ALLOWED Bin Laden to attack? Is this why they are so frightened of Ayres, because Bush set some sort of precedent in their mind? You know, McCain spent his last birthday on the yacht of a famous young man recently convicted of fraud - think McCain's gonna start passing some bad checks?
I'll acknowledge that Chicago politics are notoriously shady. If people distrusted him because he was a part of this political machine, then I would sort of get that. A politician from New Orleans would have a simliar battle with public perception of a famously and historically corrupt system.
Unfortunately, most of these comments of general "distrust" sound more like the concerns of an old woman, clutching her purse to her chest as Obama shares an elevator with her, than as insightful political criticism.
Excuse me. This is yet another fallacy thathas been debunked. Look at the people again, if they were saluting the flag, they should of been FACING IT! Not have their backs truned away from the flag. The National Anthem was being played. It is optional to keep your hand on your chest during the anthem
Really? I see the democrats platform to be a much greater risk to our constitution although the republicans have done their share of damage.
I know I never signed up to donate my earnings to the auto industry (just one of the latest examples) but it looks like I'll have no choice. When they decided they could pretty much make up what they could use taxpayer funds for no matter how far outside the scope of the constitution we were pretty much at their mercy.
But overall the least they get their hands on the better off we all are.
"Sorry. Not falling for one bit of it! No need to reply unless you are one of those who insist on having the last word."
now I'm laughing even harder. of course i want to have the last word - just like you do. but that's not the point. I still don't understand what position you were trying to take with regards to mental illness. you have not answered my question.
and since delphine seems either unwilling or unable to decipher this for me, could someone else? i would really like to know whether there is a misunderstanding or if she disagrees or agrees that mental illness is more than just whining?
Obama does put his hand over his heart when he recites the Pledge (and thank you for confirming the concerns of atheists -- that their children are being pressured to participate in public prayer in schools in violation of the Constitution), he does not always put his hand over his heart when listening to the national anthem.
I have been hearing that and other rumors of parallels between the war in Iraq and the Clone Wars since the movie came out - and Chancellor Palpetine and Bush.

I understand now why you may view all addicts in a certain light, however I have gotten to know many.

I think she only meant the sort of general mental health that all of us should look after and that she was not speaking of mental illness.

Don't you know that corporation have Constitutional protection under the Fourteenth Amendment?
