I'm not talking economics, I'm talking THE CONSTITUTION of the United States. Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Separation of Church and State, the right to legal due process when indicted, to name a few of the things the Republicans have recently threatened.....The Patriot Act comes to mind.
I'm not sure what constitution you're referring to with the auto industry.
Then the terrorists have already won in a way, haven't they?
I would rather vote out of hope.
And why is it necessary to put one's hand over one's heart when singing the National Anthem? I worship God and God only, not the flag, not the USA. I do put my hand over my heart when singing the Anthem, but I would not look unfavorably on someone who chooses not to. This country was founded on FREEDOM. You'd then think we'd have the freedom to choose what to do with our body language when singing about it. Where have we gone so astray that this is even an issue?
Really. What has this country come to that anyone would not want to show proper respect to the flag?
THE UNITED STATES CODE
title 36 subtitle I part A chapter 3 § (subsection ?) 301
§ 301. National anthem
(a) Designation.- The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
(b) Conduct During Playing.- During a rendition of the national anthem-
(1) when the flag is displayed-
(A) all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart;
(B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and
(C) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and
(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.
This is interesting and the first I have heard of this. I just sing my heart when they play the national anthem. After 9/11, I also cried. I didn't know all of these "rules". That's interesting (although a little weird that this would be codified into. The Code of Federal Regulations. I'm not familiar with Title 36. Does this section apply to all citizens? I'm on my Blackberry and don't have quick access to gpo.gov).
I mentioned race, and I don't think that being concerned that Obama will raise your taxes (if your in the top 5%), will spend money unwisely (giving money to GM or deficit spending), or that calls for change are drowned out by a campaign that has gone negative and is riddled with reversals on key issues (like off-shore drilling) is at all racist. It's fair criticism.
I think, however, it is about Race for many more people than we might like to admit, and the viral rumors and weird double standards only play to peoples' basest and most unfounded fears.
For most of these rumors, I still say many people don't believe them so much as they just like repeating them.
taking it backwards: as it has been mentioned numerous times, neither Obama or McCain has held an executive office of government.
as far as Obama's record, it is too long to list here and has been listed elsewhere on this board. thanks to mom-faith and heavenly. it may take some time to read, but this is exactly what he has drafted.
Yes, it's part of the federal code and it applies to "citizens of the United States".
So perhaps that explains why it offends others who are familiar with the tradition and protocol.
It's is however not a punishable offense because other "rights" make it unenforceable.
It's still viewed as unpatriotic and offensive. Used to be more people followed the tradition than not and now we're leaning in the other direction. Is it due do ignorance, poor schooling, liberal agenda, in your face attitudes?
I don't know. I know I find it to be boorish behavior but it makes me more sad for those who fail to participate than anything else.
I have never been moved to write on a blog or forum before, but I am sorry I have to seriously question your ideas and logic. First of all to say that you "will vote afterd using good judgement" kinda makes me laugh you already have your mind made up about voting for someone who obviously uses no judgement at all. Does McCain really think america is that stupid to believe that Palin is someone he would have chosen if the situation were different. PLEASE.... He is using this women to gain women's votes because he is giving us no credit as educated and informed people. Believe me I
I've been away for a few days and this has been my first chance to catch up on all the posts and even though I realize that this thread has kind of gone all over the place at this point, I was intrigued by your post and felt the need to respond. You stated that you were originally a Hillary supporter but are now leaning towards McCain due to his choice of Palin. With the exception of them both being women, what exactly do Palin and Clinton have in common that would sway your vote from Democrat to Republican? Just curious.

Don't forget - DISSENT IS PATRIOTIC!
