Why the difference - Biden/Palin

Ok so Biden has said some stupid things over the course of time as has Palin. Why is Palin considered "stupid"? Does anyone else see a double standard or is it just me?

I just don't believe it shows good judgement to run for VP when you are not yet ready.
I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure
That's ridiculous... under Palin we have taken in LESS federal dollars, not more. The reason Alaskans like her are varied. She drives herself to work rather than have a driver. She flies coach, instead of first class. She sent her executive chef to cook for our state Congress and only uses the chef for large dinners. She killed the cushy deal the oil companies had with Frank Murkowski (our former governor)on the gas pipeline that locked in their tax rate on the pipeline for the next 40 YEARS! Instead, she opened up the project for open bidding (a Canadian company won when the big oil companies here were pouting and didn't even bid). She proposed (and we eventually received) an energy rebate check this year from the state to offset our outrageous energy costs (this came from a surplus in the state budget). Truth to tell, some Alaskans may only like her because she's not Murkowski (omg, people hated him) or some may only like her because she's attractive. But, I doubt you'd find Alaskans to say that they like her because she gets us lots of Federal dollars- Ted Stevens is responsible for most of that.
What - directly - prepares someone like Biden for the VP position? (Or Obama for the President for that matter?) Yes, I realize he has years and years of experience in the Senate talking and deciding what others should do. But what REAL things has he done?
He may have more knowledge about foreign affairs etc. but Palin has held jobs out in the real world, she's run a company, been a mayor and Governor. She strikes me a smart, brave, capable and again I trust her judgment. She rooted out corruption within her own party. And a biggie for me is the way she LIVES her Pro-Life stance - there's conviction.
I like your postscript:
**When a person shows you who they are; believe them.**
That's how I feel about Palin.
And like I mentioned - I'm so fed up with what WA is offering right now - I WELCOME a new approach. Am I the only one here who is outraged with this bill? Not only having to bail out the effects of greed and corruption - but they throw pork on top??

I agree she has not come across as polished with the media as I would hope. However, I could not ignore the condescending tone by Gibson and the pop-quiz approach by Katie Couric. It doesn't matter to me that she couldn't rattle off specifics on McCain's record. She should have just said she didn't know off the top of her head and let it go.
Note to McCain handlers - let her be herself!
I'm VERY excited for this debate! In fact it's almost on! :)

All of your compliments seem to be based on impression, that's because we just haven't had a chance to really see her tested on the national and international stage.

I disagree with your assessment. I thought they were doing their jobs. Clearly, given tonight's debate, Palin is capable of answering questions. During those interviews she was evasive and confusing. I happen to agree with David Brooks on this: her handlers were asking her to be someone she isn't. (He said "a wonk.") As much as the folksiness grates my nerves, she is clearly much more coherent when she is allowed to speak in that fashion. I finally understood what she was trying to say over the last two weeks. That's a good thing.

What I wrote is absolutely true: Alaska receives FAR more federal money than it pays in federal taxes. In fact, Alaska receives more federal dollars per capita than ANY other state. My statement was certainly NOT ridiculous. It was factual. Alaska's request for federal funds for 2009 is on line now. This happened under Ms. Palin's watch, not Mr. M's. Here's a link:

contains as discussion of federal earmarks received by Wasilla, Alaska:
"All told, Wasilla benefited from $26.9 million in earmarks in Palin's final four years in office."
It seems that Ms. Palin has NO problem with pork, except when it becomes politically expedient to disdain earmarks.
If Alaskans like her because she drives herself to work,
then what do they think about her requesting a per diem to stay in her own house?
