Why Komen defunded Planned Parenthood

There seems to be more... I read on Komen's message board a senior VP is p/l and running for governor in Georgia.

Komen for the Cure made a error here. Once again, choicers are taken for granted. They seem to believe our support for their organisation will not waver, but they risk losing support from pro life folks. Mistake, particularly to politicise their organisation. There is a

I can understand an organisation trying to minimise divisiveness, particularly in a funding driven health related one. Polarising opinion does not help the cause.

From what I've learned is SGK is now being run by a force birther Karen Handel. And it seems she is behind this. From other sites that I belong to, no one is "HAPPY" at all & we are pushing back & dropping SGK & sending more donations to PP. Lets see how they like that. If anyone wants to sign pet for SGK I can post it

This is really unfortunate news. I've seen a lot of petitions going around the internet today because of it. I hope that SGK will reconsider, but I can't say I'm optimistic.

Nelle, It seems as if you have working knowledge of PP. Do their abortion clinics operate under the same PP umbrella as their other services? It seems like the issue of "money going towards abortions" (which I'm sure it probably isn't but, let's face it, that's what people will say) could be solved by having two separate entities: one for the abortion clinics and one for the offices that provide health care.

I don't think that PP should have to jump through hoops like that, but it seems like it would then make it easier to say "this money here is going to cancer screenings" (or whatever else they deem okay).

It seems like SGK has been in the news for questionable behavior in the past too. I remember a big hub-bub about their pink bucket at Kentucky Fried Chicken and everyone wondering how in the world they could promote something so unhealthy. It's all about the money, money, money...

I am glad about this. There are others out there who will be as well. Planned Parenthood's involvement in abortion does not set right with a lot of people. Someone standing up for their beliefs and not helping to fund killing babies, it is their right to do so and I give them credit. It may not be a popular decision with some but if more followed their gut instead of caving to the loudest voice, we might be a kinder world today.

True, money does seem to reign but I also think that people get their panties wadded up over things way too easily too. Do not like fried chicken? Fine, but someone else does so show your feelings by not eating it and move on to something else. As a society we want people to do things our way and conceiving that others have a right to doing things their way is hard to grasp. If we go around getting up in arms over every little thing, where do we find time for the things that really matter to us? It reminds me of the "Incredibles" movie. When everyone is special, no one is. Now I am off on a tangent, lol.

I see it differently and I think Komen was probably under heat from their own donors. I donate to Komen and I can understand their concern, If you want common ground then you need to find better ways to appeal to everybody not just pro-choicers.

I can't think of any more "common ground" than providing exams and screenings for cancer in women.

That is very common ground and I think all sides could agree on that service, but too bad they offer abortions. Maybe they could divide their services so people could still donate without having to worry that their money just killed a baby. They will not get any money from me until I know I am helping a life, not a death.
