WHY WOMEN SHOULD VOTE.
This is the story of our Grandmothers and Great-grandmothers; they lived only 90 years ago.

Remember, it was not until 1920
that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed
nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking
for the vote.

(Lucy Burns)
And by the end of the night, they were barely alive.
Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing
went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of
'obstructing sidewalk traffic.'
They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above
her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping
for air.

(Dora Lewis)
They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her
head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate,
Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack.
Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging,
beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.
Thus unfolded the 'Night of Terror' on Nov. 15, 1917,
when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his
guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because
they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson's White House for the right
to vote.
For weeks, the women's only water came from an open pail. Their
food--all of it colorless slop--was infested with worms.

(Alice Paul)
When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.

This country is full of people voting for Obama and not knowing why, it's just because their friend is or their co-worker or maybe just because he can say the word "change" and he's black (which I've heard people say).

You are bineg horribly offensive..but that is your right to do so. Not ALL Muslims are terroists.....not all hate America..only extremeists. Just as not all Christians bomb abortion clinics....only extremists do such things. There are plenty of religious whack jobs in this country....as in any country. The only difference between Muslim extremists and
Do you work to provide your own income and healthcare? Or is it provided by someone else? Just curious.
It was my understanding that he voted against that piece of legislation because of something else that was attached to the bill. Had he voted for it then someone would be here bashing him for voting for that part of the bill. Don't remember what it was - it was posted on another thread about a month ago. So really you can't have it both ways. Unfortunately sometimes things are attached to bills that makes voting for them a poison pill - damned if you do and damned if you don't.
I would much rather have Obama sitting next to the little red button than McCain or Palin - I shudder to think how very 'mavericky' they would think pushing it was!

You do know don't you that life can turn on a dime? The life you have today could be gone tomorrow and then you could BE one of those 'low income, poor or uninsured' people you don't think deserve help. It happens everyday to people who didn't think it would happen to them. When/if it DOES happen to you will you look back on that post and wish you hadn't posted it? Or will you be blasting those who can no longer provide help because the right wing has cut it off?
Try to walk a mile in someone else's shoes once in a while. You might be surprised at what you learn.
