WHY WOMEN SHOULD VOTE.

This is the story of our Grandmothers and Great-grandmothers; they lived only 90 years ago.

[]
Remember, it was not until 1920

that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.
[]
The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed
nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking
for the vote.
[]

(Lucy Burns)
And by the end of the night, they were barely alive.

Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing
went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of
'obstructing sidewalk traffic.'
They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above

her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping
for air.
[]
(Dora Lewis)
They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her
head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate,
Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack.
Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging,
beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.

Thus unfolded the
'Night of Terror' on Nov. 15, 1917,
when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his
guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because
they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson's White House for the right
to vote.
For weeks, the women's only water came from an open pail. Their
food--all of it colorless slop--was infested with worms.
[]
(Alice Paul)
When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.

I would much rather have Obama sitting next to the little red button than McCain or Palin - I shudder to think how very 'mavericky' they would think pushing it was!

I wouldn't - The three costliest wars (in lives) in the last century were started by Democrat presidents, and the only atomic bomb was dropped by a Dem.

The greatest loss of lives in the last 100+ years was caused by Stalin & Mao, two LEFTISTS

The death toll under

You do know don't you that life can turn on a dime? The life you have today could be gone tomorrow and then you could BE one of those 'low income, poor or uninsured' people you don't think deserve help. It happens everyday to people who didn't think it would happen to them. When/if it DOES happen to you will you look back on that post and wish you hadn't posted it? Or will you be blasting those who can no longer provide help because the right wing has cut it off?

Capitalism is not for everyone, but it made this country #1 versus 2nd or 3rd world countries.

To ignore the individual responsibility that comes with capitalism is like trying to fit a round peg into a square hole, so inspiration to better yourself HAS to start at the individual level

I grew up dirt poor in the projects of Atlanta in the 60s, and between my parents, the military, college, and the gov't, ALL HAVE FAILED TO INSPIRE ME TO STRIKE OUT ON MY OWN PATH.

While I don't dispute the fact that sacrifice and hard work build character I was merely trying to point out that there are times in peoples lives when, through no fault of their own, they fall upon hard times unexpectedly. It could be as simple as a tornado blowing through your neighborhood, or an unexpected catastrophic illness. Point is there could come a time when sacrifice and hard work are simply not enough and you MAY need temporary help beyond what you can do on your own. If you haven't learned that lesson in life yet you are blessed. Should we cut off funds for these unexpected circumstances? Or should you accept that the life you have CAN change for the worse and you may need help? Do you begrudge those who need that help? If so, when your time comes, it is comes, what are your plans?

Try to walk a mile in someone else's shoes once in a while. You might be surprised at what you learn.>>>

What about those who make this a WAY OF LIFE?
Always on welfare.
Making babies to STAY on welfare.
Then their kids learn that welfare is a way of life - accepting free handouts for the rest of THEIR life???

I'm sick of paying for them.

>>>The death toll under Stalin & Mao AGAINST THEIR OWN PEOPLE exceeds the death toll of WW1 & WW2 combined

According to the historical leftist idea of freedom, I see way too much potential for abuse

I miss the conservative women of yesteryear, especially the ones who truly appreciate being treated like a lady

I see this "in your face" attitude more from women than I do men know, and its a huge turnoff. Foreign women are way more appealing nowadays.>>>

Not sure how being treated like a lady or in you face attitude have anything to do with Stalin and Mao - maybe you need to take a break?

The point is not to rush into a war you don't have to have - I don't think the McCain/Palin team can see the difference - life is only black and white for them, when in reality there is a whole lot of grey area.
