It was a misguided war IMHO. I agree Saddam was a bad guy.. evil even. However 3k+ dead soldiers and 100k+ dead innocent civilians.... in hind sight probably wasn't worth going in after him. The reason the first Bush didn't finish the job was b/c his advisors (Colin Powell for one) told him this would happen and he decided it would not be worth it. I was for going into Iraq before i knew what i know now. None of us know how much Bush 2 knew beforehand about WMDs but i do know people in his administration knew it was a lie. That fact came out finally. I'm not convinced Bush knew but his people did.
I dont think useless is the word I would choose either. But we should not have gone into Iraq. Why?
The reasons given for the war were not true - why did the UN know it and not our own leaders? When Colin Powell went to the UN, and diplomats from all over the world said it wasnt enough evidence, that was enough for me. It should have made GWB and everyone (both sides) in congress think again.
A country should not fight 2 wars at the same time unless absolutely necessary. Our involvement in Iraq has cost us in Afghanistan.
The war was poorly planned, which has cost lives. (even McCain says it was not planned well)
Americans just do not have the understanding of the mentality of the Middle East that they should - especially GWB. They dont "hate us for our freedom". It'd be a funny statement if so many people weren't dying...
Only time is going to tell whether this was makes the Middle East any more stable. For now, the region has been destabilized (IMO). Twenty years down the road, maybe we'll see a benefit. But it is just as likely that 20 years down the road we'll think what a disaster it was.

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure
I agree with the previous poster. It was definitely misguided and imo a mistake, however I don't know that

i remember when i heard the us was going to war with iraq i thought 'you cannot be serious'
maybe someone can explain what it means when someone says pertaining to the war,
I don't know that a troop reduction = abandonment.
There are plenty of "quick" solutions floating about if the next Administration will simply be open to them.
