Really confused...Fundamentalist Christian question
Wed, 11-07-2012 - 5:48pm

Ok, I married a man whose family is different degrees of fundamentalist Christian (my husband is not.) You would think that after 20 years I would have some clue, but I don't.

My BIL is a born again fundamentalist Baptist minister. He is disappointed with the outcome of the presidential election. He posted on social media that he is glad that he knows God is in control of all things because otherwise BIL would be distraught because the liberals in America are wreaking havoc.

Serious question: If God is in control of all things, doesn't that mean that God wanted the outcome that happened?

Personally, I'm not one who sees God's hand manipulating every event...otherwise how do you reconcile all the bad things that happen to good people and all the good things that happen to bad people?  That being said...if you are a "hands-on-God" kind of believer, then yes, God wanted the outcome...but here's where it gets tricky...why?

It could be because God approves of Obama and the liberal agenda.  It could also be that God sees liberalism has led the world off course and is giving liberalism enough rope to hang itself so the country gets a wake up call, rejects liberalism, and gets back on the right path.  It's an old parenting let your kids do something that you know is going to slap them so they can learn the lesson for themselves.  Crossing fingers.

I believe that God sets people in positions such as the President of the United States.

Remember Pharoah? He was set as world leader at one time. All by the hand of God. It wasn't for a good thing either

I like to think it's like when the children of Israel were in the wilderness and they begged and begged for meat. They were so ungrateful. He gave them what they wanted. They insisted on more and it didn't turn out well for them.

Hope we aren't written about as signs of stupidity and ungratefullness for future generations. I guess we will find out.
