Catholic School Rejects Child Because Of Lesbian Parents
Protesters Attend Sunday Mass

BOULDER, Colo. -- A preschooler is caught in the middle of a fight between religion and sexuality. Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School, in Boulder, has refused to readmit a preschooler because the child has two moms. Her parents are lesbians.

"God and Jesus would not allow discrimination in that way," said Joellen Raderstorf, one of about two dozen demonstrators who turned out at Sunday's church service.

Most of the protesters stood silently, across the street, holding signs. One read "God loves all people."

Some of them went inside during mass. The priest addressed the situation in his sermon.

"He feels like it's a calling to be strict with upholding the catholic principles," said Dave Ensign, president of the Board of Directors of Boulder Pride, a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender organization.

"People who understand the Catholic teaching will understand why the decision was made," said Fabien Ardila, a member of the parish.

However, not everyone in the parish agreed with the decision.

"I just feel the Catholic church is a church that should be teaching acceptance and tolerance. I just don't think this is an example of that," Juli Aderman-Hagerty told 7NEWS as she was leaving mass. "Father Breslin said it right. We're all sinners. Why discriminate against this end of sinners?"

Well, following on the heels of the article we just discussed in this section, about the Catholic Church denying health coverage to all new employees just to avoid insuring homosexual couples, this comes as no surprise at all. :// This is just another nail in the coffin of loving and welcoming all people to their God, IMO. It used to be Catholic schools accepted kids from all backgrounds of religion. The major stipulation was that the students were forced to attend religion/catechism classes right along with the Catholic students, and were basically evangelized. Many parents still elected to send their children due to the lousy public school options in their geographic area. The academic standards were often higher. So, now the Church will discriminate against a child in the name of their religion and in judgment of the child's parents? So not "Christlike" to turn away a child, for the perceived "sins" of the parents. Awful. But as many of the diocese begin to follow the stricter more fundamentalist leadership of their Pope, the more this is likely to happen. Shutting down adoption centers. Denying future employees regardless of gender preferences, health coverage. Etc. Especially as regards homosexuality, as wider society and our *secular* gov't begin to recognize marriages of same sex couples, and put in place laws against discrimination based on gender preferences.

All in the name of "religious freedom." And in this case, turning away and discriminating against *children.* Just as an aside, I wonder if they peek into parents' bedrooms for those divorced, not Catholic, and will now ban divorced parents as well? Since they don't believe in divorce. Or parents who follow other religions, or none at all? Just how far will this invasion of a family's and parents' privacy will they take this? :O Heck, maybe they will also begin to demand to know if parents are using birth control they don't approve of? Like BC pills, and so forth? This could get really nasty really fast.

I would hope these schools do *not* receive *any* gov't funding whatsoever. They shouldn't.

Wait, wait... Now it's not only a sin to BE gay, but also a sin to be RELATED TO SOMEONE who is gay?? Are we now going to expell everyone from the Catholic Church who has any gay relatives? Friends? Coworkers?

Does ANYONE *NOT* know someone who's gay?

There'll be no Catholics left!
