Yuck and disgusting.

A married pastor couple were arrested for failure to report a man for sexually abusing his daughter. The reason? He seemed repentant. They even encourged her to forgive her father. After that he stopped abusing her and moved on to her sister. A member of the church believes that the couple will found not guilty (that was the news tonight, but not on the video shown with the article).

And so they should be. What a couple of jackasses. Those poor, poor kids.

They don't get to make that decision. Mandatory reporting is just that: mandatory.

They ought to find themselves at trial, after the father.

How disgusting! Good grief! :O As well as the father, these misguided people are accessories or enablers, and they *should* be prosecuted as such. IMO, I see a parallel between these pastors and the bishops who protect/protected pedophile priests. And those bishops can now be prosecuted for not calling the police, right? So why not these pastors? ://

Up until a few years ago in Arizona this kind of admission of a crime wasn't something that you had to report. If they had this meeting with the daughter and "father" had taken place prior 2008 they couldn't be arrested.

I am baffled that the idea of finding Christ or being really sorry for this kind of sickening behavior means that you get a pass from criminal charges.

I agree, just totally unacceptable interpretation of being "sorry" and "forgiveness." There are consequences for crimes, especially this kind, which is an uncontrollable addiction that even with therapy, cannot be "cured." And to counsel the victim to stay in the home and be at risk, and see her younger sister at risk, as well, is just unconscionable. These pastors do not live in the real world, were totally irresponsible, and really need a wake-up call. Hopefully their arrest will give them that. :O
