I was surprised.

"Asked about creation and evolution, Bush said: "I think you can have both. I think evolution can — you're getting me way out of my lane here. I'm just a simple president. But it's, I think that God created the earth, created the world; I think the creation of the world is so mysterious it requires something as large as an almighty and I don't think it's incompatible with the scientific proof that there is evolution." >> I'm just a simple president. <<

He didn't even need to say anything more than that.

Honestly, this did not surprise me. I'm fairly certain President Bush plays at fundamental literalist for the political support, but that it ends there.

Best wishes to George as he leaves office, I hope he does something positive that turns around some positive for him, something to cling to as an achievement.

Its hell to crash and burn, been there, done that. I wish him well in life, because I do think he is a decent human being - just one that I had more than huge differences with over the last eight years, well six years... he didn't truly lose me until 4/02, with the first Iraq rumours.

There have been hints that his faith was a bit more pragmatic than parlayed in campaigning for office, and this reinforces that view in my mind.

I'd like to see George forge a path that, while not a mirror of Jimmy Carter, is a similar trail with his own stamp upon it.
